  • Comments Thread For: Oleksandr Usyk Has Nothing Left To Prove

We said it all fight week, and even since the fight was made: If Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury to be recognized as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, he would transcend being a lock for the Hall of Fame - after all, he already was - and enter the realm of the leading all-time greats.

If he retired right now he’d go into boxing lore as ATG legend… but hard to turn down 50+ million for 48 minutes.

Since he took 30% for that fight, he should get 90% for the next one. He's the undisputed champion now. Who's the A-side now, eh?

Did anyone else see/hear Fury yelling at Turki "show me the money, show me the money" after the fight

The Usyk nut hugging, not so latent **********ism. Sick!

Outweighed, underpaid, on the road. Usyk took the hard way, there is no doubt about his quality. His problem is, who is next? Andy?

If you look back at the greats, they did still have more to do simply because they were much younger when they conquered the division.

Ali, Frazier, Foreman... all much younger when they became champions. Had defining wins as champion. And still there was time to define who was the greatest through a series of fights (and losses).

This current era just didn't bother. Joshua had a go at reigning and unifying but fell short in the first defining fight. Wilder reigned but was kept away from anyone worthwhile. As champion, Fury fought more exhibitions than challengers.

Now we're at Usyk. Proven at this point in time as the best in the division just as Ali, Frazier, Foreman were considered at some point. But he's 37 and won't go on to have many more defining fights with the whole division targeting him. He's got no more to do because he's reached the pinnacle at 37, not because he's achieved everything.

Yes he does. I thought it was a draw, watched it last night for scoring purposes and had the Fury of Tyson ahead by 4 points So all three judges had it wrong. Tyson was right when he said he felt he won because he did. Facts. Facts. I'll give the little Russian credit though, he fought better than I thought he would.

Usyk been a road warrior his entire career against all the top competition and has found ways to beat every one of them in their backyard, some more decisively than others. Finally getting his just due on a broader scale when he's been great his entire career. He's most likely a future HOFer, but if he can knock off Fury again in the rematch, there is no way he can be denied a spot in Canastota with all his achievements.
