While I agree that it's impressive how he bridged the gap on Fury, I think the guy moving up has all the advantages. He has more speed, he's used to other people being faster, and he's a heavyweight (or else they wouldn't sanction it). The one thing the natural heavyweight has might work against him.

Big George is my all time fave, but I find his career odd and hard to define. Destructions of Frazier and Norton are special. He had a poor showing against Ali which is forgivable and again against Morrison which isn’t. Regaining the crown at an advanced age was epic, but Moorer wasn’t exactly a world beater at heavy.

I don’t know. The Cat’s pro career overall is defined by so few but at the same time significant fights that he’s hard to rank.

I will say this. Of the great fighters at any weight I’ve had the pleasure of watching in my lifetime (JCC, RJJ, Floyd, Calzaghe, Oscar, Holyfield, Lewis, Foreman, Bud, Inoue, GGG, Wlad, Hopkins, and so many more) Usyk takes a back seat to no one.

Usyk has 2 great scalps in bag. But if he fought some other heavyweights lower tier than josh and fury, usyk might lose. So it's hard to gauge with so limited fights in the division.

Usky does not have a lot of the pro fights, BUT he has beaten many quality fighters. Pre 1980 all of his above opponents were ranked would be heavyweights.

His final standing is not set yet, but he also has not lost as many matches as say Holyfield has. Legacy wise he is still going strong.

Head to head wise, I now think he rates within the top 15 of all time. Ask me where when he retires.

He is #1 is his time line, I'll give him that. But I do not think he is a Klitschko( Vitali and Wlad ) or Lewis type of talent.


To be viewed favorably by most American fans he would need to beat a good American. Sadly there aren't any around and have not been any great ones since the 1990's. Bowe and Holyfield.
