The part I hate most about it, as others have stated a bazillion times….. I wish he’d stop trying to apply ANY type of logic as to why he won’t. Or excuse. Or whatever term we want to use. Cuz none of it is legit. Mentioning size? Well he’s fought bigger. Mentioning countrymen? He’s fought them. Mentioning “It needs to be earned”? Benavidez has earned it. Money? There’s plenty of it for this fight. Whatever direction he goes with excuses, his own career contradicts it in some way or another.
He REALLY needs to shift to a Bill Bellicheck approach. “I’m worried about Munguia, next question please”. And leave it at that. That’s his only legitimate out, that won’t get **** thrown his way.

See? this is all the WBCs fault. if they were to force him or strip him, none of this would be a major topic.
So lets clarify a bit...
you cant fight that guy because hes too big, even tho hes been your #1 contender in the SAME weight class for over 3 years...
you cant fight that guy because hes too small, and it wouldn't do your legacy any good...
you cant fight that guy because he (will) beat the man that beat you...
you cant fight that guy because hes the bigger/better twin...
you cant fight that guy because you dont do rematches...
you cant fight that guy because hes Mexican...
who else is left?Last edited by Plick647; 04-12-2024, 11:07 AM.

In short, it's the self-serving characterless vs anyone honest that cares about the greater good.
Someday this will all make sense to you but until then rant, be offensive, and by all means continue to blame the other guy.

Canelo is still angling/lightweight begging for the Saudis to make him an offer they have shown absolutely no interest in offering him so far.
That’s why all this “I would love to fight Bivol or Beterbiev” talk is suddenly coming out of his mouth.
Canelo isn’t dumb: he knows he’s a fading PPV attraction - the only reason he’s suddenly willing to fight Munguia is because the whole “2 fighters from Mexico fighting on Cinqo di Mayo” hook will boost PPV sales to a level he is no longer able to attract on his own.
(Canelo’s PPV numbers for the Bivol, Ryder and Charlo fights were horrible, and the only reason Canelo-GGG 3 did well was because GGG pulled a con job on boxing fans and made us think he was actually going to try to win that fight - in reality, GGG was only interested in surviving the 12 rounds and picking up the cash-out retirement check.)
The Saudis don’t want you, Canelo. Stop begging.

I've watched Canelo's career with great interest since he fought Mayweather. I've enjoyed watching his fights, and have paid out of pocket for several of his PPVs. I'm no hater.
But let's be honest. He's ducking Benavides. And he's not hiding the fact. He doesn't think that the risk is worth the reward. And he's one of the few in the history of boxing who has made it to a point where he can demand almost any amount of money to fight hand picked opponents.
Boxing is a hard business with an even worse business model. But until some major changes get made, this is what we're going to get from most of the few fighters who enter the rare air Canelo has. It's a bit disappointing, to be sure.
One thing those of us who wish boxing was a sport--- and you have to understand that professional boxing is far, far more a business than it is a sport---- one thing we still have is this: Canelo can fight who he wants, but none of us have to recognize him as the champion of the world. He is still a good fighter. He may even be the face of boxing. But if he won't fight the top contender for his crown, then he doesn't get to wear it anymore.
The only thing more ridiculous than someone who isn't a king thinking he's a king is a *king who thinks he's a king. You read that right. The day the population rejects the ruler and revolts, is the day the king loses his status. And that status can only be regained by winning the *fight. If Canelo won't fight, then all it takes to end his reign is for us to agree that he isn't king anymore.
And that's where I'm at. Canelo had a good career. He fought and beat a lot of good fighters. He may still have a few left in him. But he isn't king anymore. He just isn't.

Benavidez and Munguia are somewhat similar, in that they have lots of KOs but not necessarily viewed as “One punch KO power” fighters. It’s more of an accumulation of punches that end their opponent. But Munguia supposedly a less of a threat, as the whole world sees it. I’m not a Canelo fan, I DO respect his career overall tho. He’s not “afraid” Of any fighters. And he HAS in the past taken on some challenges that were viewed as very very tough at the time they were announced. In my opinion, fighting GGG, Bivol, and Mayweather at the time he fought them, were viewed as massive difficulty challenges. None are Mexican of course. He wasn’t afraid of them, but arguably lost to all 3 some might say. Then we can look at Chavez Jr and Munguia and say “ok he’s proven now that he will fight his countrymen”. However, put the two together, a fellow FEARED COUNTRYMAN, and that’s something he is clearly avoiding in my opinion.
