How well do you know Boxing, really?

We all post our opinions about current events in boxing; EVERYBODY'S got an opinion or three.
But how many of us can appreciate how big this sport really is?

Did you ever wonder where all those multi million dollar paydays in Boxing come from, month after month, year after year, decade after decade?

Ever think about the fact that Jack Dempsey earned as much in a single fight as Babe Ruth, Bill Tildon, Red Grange, Bobby Jones and Jim Thorpe, his contemporaries in the 1920's, made in their combined careers?

Ever wonder why Jack Broughton is burried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey, alongside Elizabeth I, Queen of England, George Frederic Handel, Charles ****ens, Geoffrey Chaucer and Rudyard Kipling?

Did you ever contemplate why Muhammad Ali was selected by Time Magazine as one of the 100 persons of the century, equally with Sir Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King Jr, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Henry Ford, Albert Einstein and The Wright Brothers?

Ever contemplate why Ali is still known to millions of young childeren today the world over, while his superstar contemporary Pele is comparatively forgotten?

Because Boxing is BY FAR the most popular sport in the world:

    And it always has been.

.....And some of us actually beleived people when they said that "Boxing is dead".

So Willow there are two variations, actually I'm sorry, there are three variations of this story. Depending on who is being lauded as having the popularity of the Pope! So to speak.

In each case it starts with American GI's over in England. There is a procession with the Queen and the very aggressive guards are shouting to "make way for the Queen!" Whereupon one of the more boisterous soldiers says " pooey for the queen! "Or something to that effect.

Depending on the version of the story, the guard replies by saying "pooey for one of three sports figures:
Babe Ruth (the least cited) Joe dimmaggio (inevitably cited when the setting is the second world War), and finally, Muhammad Ali, (usually cited when the story is set in modern times).

You're going off some random article that cites no reference for how it estimates the number of fans?

You should have stopped reading at number 9. where Lacrosse is supposedly more popular than baseball, formula 1 and golf - I've known golfers in the USA, Ecuador and the UK - I've never met a lacrosse player and I don't recall seeing it on tv.

You could put Usyk vs Fury up against the soccer world cup final - same time round the world - I'd wager a lot of money that the WCF would have higher viewing figures around the world

I wouldn't sell Willow short myself. He probably did some level of research himself. So, articles actually.
