  • Comments Thread For: Jaron 'Boots' Ennis-Cody Crowley Mandatory Title Fight Ordered by IBF

The next fight for Jaron 'Boots' Ennis won't be so voluntary, after all. BoxingScene.com has learned that the IBF has ordered the unbeaten welterweight titlist to next defense versus Cody Crowley. The two sides were actually summoned to enter a 30-day negotiation period beginning on January 31.

Hearn said he'd love to promote Ennis - lets see if he picks this up or is full of it

Decent enough fight, just wanna see Boots active, that should be his sole prerogative at this point. Curious as to what network this will fall to & who’s gonna bid on this fight. The boxing pessimist in me feels like we’ll get multiple purse bid delays & it’ll fall thru due to the pending promotional litigation & the financials likely not lining up with Boots’ perceived worth. Feel like this should be common knowledge, but this seems like one of the first articles that points out Crawford’s obvious rematch obligation. All these Crawford/Boots articles the last few months have probably been good for traffic & comments, but pretty much just blowing smoke up peoples asses. Wish boxing journalists would actually dig into the specifics of the Crawford/Spence rematch clause, cuz until we have clarity on that, all the ducking talk as it relates to Boots is just people exposing their fandom. Hope this one comes to fruition and we see Boots in a 147 unification fight in 2024 since all signs point to Crawford moving up to 154 & still being tied up in some contractual BS with Spence.

        Ennis:
IBF champion (therefore ineligible to be ranked by the WBA/WBC/WBO)
        TBRB #2
        Ring #2
        ESPN #3
        BLH #3
        BoxRec #5

        Crowley:
        IBF #3
        WBC #1
        WBO #2
        WBA N/R
        TBRB #3
        Ring #5
        ESPN #5
        BLH #7
        BoxRec #7

This is pretty much the best fight they can make at 147 assuming Crawford and Spence are done in the division.

They have 30 days to negotiate, which presumably is in the better interest of Crowley, who is signed with PBC. Haymon won't just let his guy fight on another platform. Bidding takes place only when negotiations didn't go smoothly. Ennis himself don't want to fight anywhere else other than in the PBC area.

Idk, things seem murkier than ever these days. Wilder was one of the linchpins of PBC & he just fought on another network. Crowley’s aligned with PBC but he’s inconsequential in the big picture of their outfit, so who knows if they’ll actually bid on this or if they’ll ultimately bid to the fighters satisfaction.

That's a good fight tbh. Crowley is game as hell and is due a big fight ever since he beat Abdukakhorov a couple years who was number 1 with the IBF at the time and hes highly ranked with every governing body aswell.

I believe Crowley being the challenger will only get 25% or 30% of the winning bid. But he'll probably sign with whichever is higher, regardless of where the source is or between negotiated and net split outcome. But then he'll never know unless he goes through with the bid.

Yes he will. Crowley has only fought once a year for the past 4 years, so obviously Al couldnt care less about him. And he certainly isnt going to waste one of his Amazon Prime dates on him......
