Comments Thread For: Anthony Joshua Praises Ben Davison: "He Doesn't Try To Change Your Style"

The two Usyk fights are hard to compare. Joshua did obviously go in with a different game plan but Usyk did what Usyk does and adjusted.
The problem was the second Ruiz fight, he won it though boxing and moving to protect his chin. It made him think he was a stick and move fighter and negated his strengths. Ben Davison refining his original form is definitely the way forward.Comment

Exactly. This comment, that I've heard before from AJ about Ben, feels like more of diss to Robert & Derrick than hyping Ben.
And just logically it doesn't make a lot of sense to switch a guy up this late in his career. So I see why AJ talks about this like he does. AJ reached the top spot with all his flaws already. You don't gotta reinvent the wheel to get him back there & idek if you got the time to reinvent the wheel for AJ this late in his story.
When AJ lost to Ruiz it was due to a ****** tactical mistake.
All that needed to be learned from that was don't rush in and recklessly start exchanging with a short guy with fast hands.
Like that's it, one lesson.
But no they tried to change everything that worked about him before.
Ben has the right idea.Comment

If Ben can refine it, or as I said - if AJ has the necessary to profit from Ben. I don't think he does. AJ realized it is hard for him to be outboxing fighter, his game is more aggression and power, but there he is vulnerable and that seems to scare him. So now he is stuck between both which is not a change, but a fading.

No, it's a way of saying it's self-evident or easily perceptible. Many, many people have commented on his change in style/approach post-Ruiz I and the difference between Ruiz I and Ruiz II was night and day.
Joshua became far less cavalier in his approach to attack. Clearly, he changed. Your attempt to talk about degradation is sophistry.Last edited by Monty Fisto; 01-27-2024, 02:35 PM.Comment

I see - your vision of AJ comes from "many many people" (which I explained to you how worthless it is) and your head being in AJ's... But he simply degraded out of fear and tried to do something he isn't capable of.

Joshua is the person who changes his style, by hopping around from trainer to trainer. Same with cryin' Ryan. These guys are boxing whoresComment

You can get away with a less than stellar chin in boxing if you have the power to knock anyone the **** out with one punch. That tends to make people worry about their own chins more.
Joshua needs to get back to being the hammer in his fights, he's too cautious and over thinks things right now, I'm seeing positive changes under Davidson but Wallin wasn't enough of a test.Comment

Who in your opinion has a better chin amongst the HW?
