Bud vs Boots is a nice fight since Bud cannot fight Tszyu for the belt in March (effin good for nothing Thurman...) and Jermell is still on vacation, but at the same time Boots basically being unwilling to do anything to make himself a worthwhile opponent does make it frustrating. He literally, literally has NOTHING worth bragging actually written on his resume, and yet continues to be inactive as hell overrating his own worth as if he is some Tank-type pull. Does he pass the eye test? Sure. Does he have the potential? Absolutely. Is he better than most 147 not named Bud? Very likely. However none of it is proven on paper, and he has fought zero champions in his career. Hell, even the crummy resume Tank actually fought a beltholder for his first belt and actually defended it before he became too fat for it.
Boots is currently 26 yrs old with 31-0 record plus a NC. That may seem like a lot, but the first 22 fights were from when he was 21 or younger when he was fighting almost monthly against no names just for record. Since his 22nd birthday, in 4.5 years he fought 10 times (9 wins and 1 NC). It gets worse when you consider that since 2022 he has fought only three time, with no sign or rumors of next fight.
I'd rather have Bud fight Boots over an useless rematch against Spence. However Boots certainly is at fault for his lack of opportunity and exposure to public. He last got in the ring on July 2023 and knew Spence activated the rematch in August...why couldn't he have atleast scheduled to fought someone even as a stay busy fight? Sure he wanted to fight Crawford, but he could've had a match scheduled for later last year while waiting for the Bud-Spence rematch to happen so Crawford is free?
