Kali Reis in True Detective season 4

    Anyone excited to see this?

For those unfamiliar, Kali Reis is a boxer turned writer and actress. In the ring she won the WBC middleweight title as well as the unified WBA/WBO/IBO super lightweight title.

She left boxing to co-write and star in the independent film Catch the Fair One, which received widespread critical acclaim. Now she's in the newest season of HBO's True Detective.

Cool to see a fighter cross over into the mainstream. Reis had a long road, having taken 5 losses and a draw before she won her first world title and having put herself through college to study criminology, then trade school to repair motorcycles, all while boxing and working as a bouncer. She took losses against top tier opposition like Cecilia Braekhus, Mikaela Lauren, Hanna Gabriels, and Christina Hammer. Really paid her dues, moved up and down in weight, fought all over the world (US, Germany, Bermuda, Canada, Spain, Costa Rica, New Zealand).

Yeah, "Catch The Fair One" was a good movie.

I might have to check it out.

She described being partnered with Jodie Foster as the acting equivalent of getting to be in a Mike Tyson training camp in the mid 80s. To go from a complete novice to co-starring with Foster in such a short time is pretty remarkable. I'm excited to see how Kali grows as an actress, because she filmed Catch the Fair One with absolutely zero acting experience or coaching beforehand.

I saw this. The fact that they even put Kali Reis’s name in the trailer means she must have a decent sized role.

She's the co-star alongside Jodie Foster.

I saw her fight a few times. Maybe Braekhus and Hammer? I thought she looked pretty decent against good competition. I haven't seen the 4th season but sounds like she has quite the drive to do everything that she's accomplished thus far.

Yeah, she's the only person to ever drop Braekhus even though she lost most of the rounds. McCaskill, Harper, Lauren, Farias, St John, Hallback, Lamare, Mathis, Castillo... none of them ever dropped Cecilia and some of them fought her twice.

She was really good in that indie movie she did. I've been looking forward to her in this role since I heard she got it.

I usually hate keeping up week to week with a series tho, esp one like True Detective where it may not be clear where things are going, so will probably wait til its over & binge the whole series in a day or two.

Neven Pajkic the former Canadian HW champion & one time Tyson Fury opponent retired from boxing & has been a stuntman & extra in many movies. Cool to see another boxer get a bigger role than extra/stuntman... I enjoyed the first 3 TD so look forward to season 4...
