Unifications almost always trump mandatories. But when you're already unified (Crawford) they expect you to at least WANT to defend.

Crawford openly said he's not fighting the mando.

Spence never said he's not fighting mandos, he said "strap season, I wanna unify first" which is what he was doing.

If Crawford wanted to unify first, that's exactly why he should have fought Boots while waiting on Spence, because IBF doesn't care about rematch clauses. They want your signature on that contract, or they're taking the belt.
Yeah, I agree. What you are saying makes a lot of sense. Bud was the undisputed champion at 147 and he owed an IBF title defense to the mandatory challenger Jaron "Boots" Ennis.

If he was intending on staying at 147; Then he could have easily petitioned the iBF to grant him an extension. However, he went on record saying that he would never fight "Boots" because it didn't make any business cents for him.

So what was the IBF supposed to do under those circumstances? They had to strip him. I don't know why he won't just relinquish those titles anyway because it's not like he is going to defend them?

Besides, he's moving up to 154 to challenge Spence anyhow. If that fight takes place it will be at 154.

Crawford has said multiple times that the rematch has to be 147 because Spence hasn’t put in writing that he can’t make the weight anymore.

Either way, there’s a delay. Which means Crawford could answer the call to “come get yo belt back” from Boots and be a 2x undisputed.

I'm OK with Crawford, or anyone else, aiming for the most lucrative, winnable fight. But belt holders being able to skirt the most difficult challenger is why this sport will never gain mass appeal, because promoters can then just host/fix garbage events for their contracted fighters.
Boots fought Chukhadzian for that interim. That was the fight you’re asking about. Then he defended against Villa who went up in rank after beating Ellis. It wasn’t “bestowed” on anyone, he fought for it, just like Ugas beat James for WBA Regular.

”top” is based on that org, NOT across the division. It’s always been that way.

Well that makes me feel even less sympathetic for him then. If he doesn't fight Spence at 154 then it won't be a rematch. So you are right. Now they are back to square one. In that case, he could have fought Boots.

That was a very weak move by Crawford to get his title stripped while still competing in the same weight class as Ennis. What a classic duck? The real reason why he ducked Jaron is because he fears getting his ass whupped!

The man Crawford has a rematch clause with Spence at 147.
after that he can take care of Any so called mandos if he chooses to.
If not he relinquishs so called belt/belts end of story.
it's 100% corruption, double standards, back alley deals, under the table hand shakes, and it stinks of PBC Showtime corruption.

There’s no corruption, you just don’t like it.

Which is validation that they’re doing a good job.

Fans shouldn’t tolerate a welterweight champion calling out lightweights and super middleweights.

Boots and his camp turned down the opportunity to fight Crawford twice. It was confirmed by Crawford's team, the WBO, AND Bozy Ennis himself....regardless of the reason, they turned down this "chance" that you claim Boots didn't get. So try again on that nonsense that the IBF made the right move. Crawford WON that title by beating the man who held the title. No champion in history has been stripped of their title in under a calendar year without a violation. How is it right that Crawford gets stripped after 3 months when he's bound to a LEGAL CONTRACT that was put in motion by his opponent and the IBF knew the terms before hand?

You and others sound silly, hateful, jealous, and/or clueless trying to justify the actions of that corrupt sanctioning body. Usyk didn't didn't defend his title for a year and when he did it wasn't against his mandatory. Charlo was allowed the opportunity to defend his IBF status vs a mandatory or be announced as Undisputed before being stripped of it 16 months after he defeated Castano. Canelo won his IBF title off Caleb Planet in 2017 and hasn't fought a mandatory for it yet....Even fought out of the division once along with a rival match with GGG.

And what has Boots done that makes him so deserving of a "chance" over anyone else in the rankings. He's yet to even face an opponent who will ever win a title at 147. The only opponent he has that's even recognized in the rankings by the IBF is Karen whom he didn't look too spectacular against.

having said that, ibf should have already stripped canelo and jermell.
for the record, i don't hate these fighters. they just simply hold on their belts for too long without EVER meaning to fight their mandatories (abdukakhorov, murtazaliev, ennis, scull). imagine if canelo fought william scull already instead of golovkin3 or ryder and it was the right thing to do (scull, benavidez or morrell). imagine the outrage. the same applies to jermell - murtazaliev and spence - ennis. how long should mandatories wait? 2 years was pretty long but 4 years now?! gtho. strip them all and force them to fight more.
It's not the right move. You don't punish one champion for something another champion failed to do for years. Crawford earned the right to be announced as the undisputed champ in his next fight if he so chose to continue as a welterweight. The IBF knew of the negotiations and agreements as well as Ennis's camp.

We shall not ignore the fact that Boots was offered an opportunity to face but for the WBO as well which he declined. So, this notion that he "deserves" to be the IBF is ignorant. At the very least, he should have to fight for a vacant title. He's done nothing to be rewarded a belt when someone has been stripped.

How can you call yourself the champion but refuse to fight someone you know can dethrone you?
Boots is the biggest challenge based on what? Who has he beat that's even close to Crawford's caliber. His best wins are vs a couple 140lb'ers trying to move up to welterweight. He has yet to fight an opponent who will ever compete for a title at 147. And we can't ignore the fact Boots camp confirmed that they turned down an offer to fight Crawford for the WBO, so this notion that Crawford didn't show any interest is ignorant and false. Both the WBO and Boot's camp confirmed being offered the Crawford fight.
