Can’t really argue it.

Unified 135, actually defended the belts twice, vacated rather than get stripped for ducking a mandatory, and pitched a shutout on the WBC 140 champion.

However, it still goes into the record books as a victory. Moreover, your scorecard is your opinion. Yes, it's true that many people thought he lost to Loma.

However, many people also thought that he defeated Loma too; Due to the latter's lack of activity. He just didn't do enough to win. He competed but he did not win it.

He mostly fought in spurts and took many rounds off in the process in order to conserve energy. Had Lomachenko fought the entire fight like he did in the 11th round then he would have won the fight easily.

I am genuinely curious so disregarding every other candidate for now for argument sake, do you see it possible to argue that Haney will likely have a better year than Inoue, and if so how? I can understand if the argument is that he is better right now until Inoue fights his second match simply due to having fought twice to once, but in a few weeks it is very likely Inoue would've brutally destroyed Tapales, which in that case...

Both fought and won twice, but Inoue wins by two dominant KO where Haney had two decision wins of which one was dominant UD but other was rather controversial.
Both moved up a division and fought a belt holder for the first fight, but Inoue fought the universally top rated guy of the new division where Haney fought a guy that was considered the easier half of the champs.
Inoue also won 4 new belts compared to Haney's 1 new belt.
The only advantage Haney may claim is that the overall quality of Loma and Prograis is better than Fulton and Tapales but that is more due to Loma being high, which is the one he wasn't really good against but luckily came out at top.

If by an extremely unlikely chance Inoue loses or even has a controversial win there may be a chance to argue, but if Inoue knocks out Tapales convincingly which is a very high chance, I don't see how Haney is above Inoue for FotY.

Haney has done well but Crawford was majestic against Spence and knocked him out. Teo's performance against Taylor was also very special.

The Haney's do an awful lot of shouting about very little . Beating someone like Errol Spence so convincingly puts this 'result' into prospective.

I might agree if he beat Loma fair and square. Most felt he lost.

It has to be Inoue if he wins on December 26th. From December 2022 to December 2023, he will have become undisputed in two divisions. Undisputed twice in the space of 12 months.

Of course there's crawford, id say he had the performance of the year but he only fought once, so I think Inoue would edge him in fighter of the year. I wouldn't argue either way.

Teo was very good that night, and he is a very good fighter when he's right

But let's not forget that Taylor was already coming the worse performance of his career v Catterall, and had spent most of the last 18 months out of the ring with serious injuries, and went into the Teo fight without fighting for well over a year and still dealing with injuries, operations etc

Not that we should take anything from Teo because he was very good, but wasnt the Taylor that fought Ramirez, Prograis etc.
