Yes, but in his 20's he was undisputed world champ, having twice brutally knocked out Frazier, who broke Ali's jaw and handed him his first defeat in the fight of the century. JJ isn't heading into his 40's with even an alphabet interim title to his name and his notable win is over a two time quitter who got knocked out by a jab from a blown up cruiserweight ...just saying

TRAIN him to dodge shots. He has assets that are too big to ignore and nobody is too old to learn a few simple things. If you tried to train me defense, I might never get it. Joe , on the other hand, is a professional and coordinated athlete and he does not need to start from scratch but rather learn some defense.Comment

You don't need to see a shot to avoid it. If you move your head/body after you hit, and you change lanes, you're a lot less likely to get hit. You can also predict, and sometimes control, which shots come back at you. Good evasion usually requires you to already be moving, because action is faster than reaction. If you wait to see the shot, you're way more likely to get hit by it. If you're feinting and moving your head and feet unpredictably, opponents are often even less likely to throw the shot in the first place.
Joe just keeps his head in the center lane. He's there to be hit even if his opponent were blindfolded, because you always know right where his head is. And he just stands in the pocket because he never figured out distance. His come-forward "juggernaut" style never really required him to actually develop those basic skills. There's dozens of things he could do. But he's an old dog, and he's not going to learn new tricks.Comment

Not that it matters but I’m surprised we’re on page 3 of comments, and no one said, Not “ALL” heavyweights have taken a loss. Usyk and Fury still have 0s. Just sayin’!Comment

Always been a Joe fan but at 38 and coming off of those losses its hard to be optimistic about his future. His biggest asset was his iron chin, but now its potentially been cracked for good.
Its just a shame that he never got a bigger fight before he was derailed. Its easy to scoff at the idea now hes gotten his **** pushed in twice, but this time a year ago I doubt many of the big names in the division were too keen to go near him.Comment

If Joyce's chin has not completely turned to glass, he can definitely get back in the mix. He actually got up before the 10 count, that shot that Zhang landed would put Joshua out cold. This is a weak HW era, Dubois, after his loss to Joyce, got a title shot by beating a few no hopers. ABC belts are gonna be plenty when Fury-Usyk relinquishes. Only thing holding Joyce back seems to be Warren, he doesn't seem too big on Joyce, but loves Dubois for some reason.Comment

I think we ll know that every boxer in this era has some kind of glaring imperfection. I do not buy it cannot be improved on. Joyce can learn some defense basics he is ignoring. The problem is: At some point you revert back to who you are. Joyce is at heart a straight ahead tank that needs to hurt his opponent to be effective. Joyce needs some kind of defensive movement that complements who he is as an offensive boxer that can become second nature quickly. I do not know what would specifically work. But I am a fan, not a trainer so I do not have to. That is his challenge. As many have said, there is an effective way to beat Joyce on video now. No one is going to be scared away, unlike what maybe Joyce was perceived as after DuBois and Parker. I will still say he deserves so much credit for fighting Zhang when he did not need to. The man had a serious set of challenges all in a row and that is rare in HW boxing. My only real question: Does he recover from these losses and become a legit threat again? Or does he become a Chisora type?Comment
