not a lot of punchers use the high guard. Shortens the swing on counters. Also opponents can see punches comjng
I was a wrestler all my life so my tendons and ligaments are kind of strong, and I have a pretty long reach ( my height is 184cm and my reach is 202cm ) so the high guard comes naturally for me

And I am not the most agile guy in the world and I don’t like getting hit, so it’s perfect for me

If you're not biased against the small guys, he's a great one to learn from. One of the best high volume pressure fighters out there. His first two fights with Estrada each they combined for over 2000 punches. Both were fight of the year candidates easily.

Amazing back and forth fight between Juan Francisco Estrada and Roman Gonzalez, as they combine to throw a weight class record 2,529 punches. They combined to land an astonishing 705 punches, with Gonzalez landing 391. Estrada's 1,212 thrown is a career high.

What's really impressive is that he's not just winging combos though. He's very high volume but still placing his shots in an educated way with good power. Fought Martinez, who was an undefeated champ at the time, and 8 years his junior, and absolutely demolished him. I was impressed with Martinez' chin at least, since Chocolatito landed over 50% of his power shots.
