His shoe shine style worked wonders for him. Throwing less combos and trying to land power shots would have cost him.Originally posted by starjammerYeah but if Calzaghe slaps he's not stopping anyone is my point. I'm not trying to amp up his opposition.Comment

Ha. Poor old Mario. Joe did hit hard back then, no question about it. He fought with real intensity as well.

So you'd disagree with Eubank that Joe had good power? Sparring partners, even recent ones, said he hits hard.

Yeah but if Calzaghe slaps he's not stopping anyone is my point. I'm not trying to amp up his opposition. <- posted that, not showing up on the thread.
Veit was undefeated at the time, although definitly padded. It was a job that Calzaghe should have done on him in the first round and he was able to do that because he had a bit of power there...as compared to later years. Would Joe of 2007 been able to do this. Can't seem him flooring Veit. It would have to be an on the ropes Manfredo job.Comment

He had ok power. Would I classify him as a puncher? No. he never was a puncher, he did hit harder then though, but he was still learnign the craft and got into a class of his own in 2005.Comment
