2001 - These were some thudding slaps I'll tell you

Truth be told, guys you fight earlier in your career tend to suck and are KOed easily. I have seen malignaggi turn some guys lights out. This si why most good fighters have a string of devastating KOs early in their career even if they are not punchers.

His shoe shine style worked wonders for him. Throwing less combos and trying to land power shots would have cost him.

Ha. Poor old Mario. Joe did hit hard back then, no question about it. He fought with real intensity as well.

His hands were tougher back then. As he aged into what a few haters call his somehow "prime" at the age of 34-36 his hands were totally shot.

So you'd disagree with Eubank that Joe had good power? Sparring partners, even recent ones, said he hits hard.

Veit was undefeated at the time, although definitly padded. It was a job that Calzaghe should have done on him in the first round and he was able to do that because he had a bit of power there...as compared to later years. Would Joe of 2007 been able to do this. Can't seem him flooring Veit. It would have to be an on the ropes Manfredo job.

He had ok power. Would I classify him as a puncher? No. he never was a puncher, he did hit harder then though, but he was still learnign the craft and got into a class of his own in 2005.

he would have stopped him witha barrage of 50 unanswered shots.
