I am a bit taken aback by the negativity Canelo Alvarev receives in the boxing world. People literally get angry if you call him the pound for pound number one now never mind and all time great. I may have read it wrong but he started at 15 years old, lost to Floyd as a young man and had 26 world title fights until losing again this time away up at Light heavyweight. People seem to mock him for the Triple G fight when no one wanted to fight GGG and in the draw I felt Canelo had executed a game plan and stole it, Triple G's team mocked the Mexican for not fighting in the Mexican way so in the rematch he did and got the win taking the very best GGG could dish out. So Canelo is my most underrated fighter in my era of boxing and I started watching as a 7 year old in 1987..... Who do you guys rate as the boxer who was most underrated in your life span?

Canelo is neither underrated or overrated.
He is widely seen as:
- Best and greatest fighter of his generation by margin.
- High level ATG.
- High level draw, cash cow and A-side.
- Has his own era.
He might be greatest P4P fighter of all time with solid fights after his retirement. He is still only 33.Comment

Wow! Someone else who sees it! Bless you 4truth... I have been on the Jimmy Young bandwagon for a long time now. Heres kind of the kicker: But for a judge giving Norton a questionable decision, and the obvious bad Ali decision... Young beat virtually all the great fighters in the division except Frazier, who he did not fight.Comment

Not too far from Calzaghe's era. Don't really think he's as well known as he ought to be.
And the guys in the small weight classes are consistently overlooked. Like Kazuto Ioka, for instance. Or imagine if Naoya Inoue had started at 130 or 135 and had the same accomplishments across 5 divisions. Chocolatito and Estrada at least made it to the P4P lists, but still got undervalued in comparison to others in larger weight divisions. Imagine if the great Wilfredo Gomez had been a welterweight how much differently he'd be regarded ( and that's a guy who IS highly acclaimed).Comment

Like a lot of posters have pointed out, there is no consensus undervaluing Canelo. SOME people think ANY fighter is a "bum." Even Andre Ward who gets a lot of hate, also has an equally positive fan base who consider him one of the best. I would be tempted to put Ward down, but I realize that what I just posted is true, far as I can see.I am a bit taken aback by the negativity Canelo Alvarev receives in the boxing world.
