Will Mahmoud Charr actually defend his reinstated 'regular' belt?

We had that Chagaev farce in Chechnya, which in turn led to Oquendo having some legal right to fight for the belt, then we had Lucas Browne win the belt who a few months later popped for PEDs. Then Charr wins the vacant belt who also pops for PED’d and then got shot or something not long after I believe, then Trevor Bryan becomes a “World Heavyweight Champion”. Meanwhile Dubois coming off a loss and Bogdan Dinu are fighting for the interim version. Eventually Dubois beats Bryan and Usyk beats Dubois and we think we’re finally rid of this nonsense belt and Manuel Charr gets reinstated on some legal loophole.
It’s absolutely laughable man.Comment

That WBA reg belt is the most laughable in boxing.

I'm old enough to remember when there was only one belt. Didn't know how good we had it.
UFC has the right idea. Even though they are starting to make new belts aswell.Comment

Don’t get me wrong, ideally I’d prefer 1 per weight class but it just seems a million years away from ever happening.
I got into boxing in the 90’s, I don’t think I’d be anywhere near as big of a fan if I grew up in this era. Seems like most of the kids gravitate towards UFC too.Comment

I preferred just the three. I was very resistant to accepting the WBO and still teasingly refer to it as the WBOgus in reference to my stubbornness.Comment

But in regards to it being a legitimate actual recognised belt, yes.Comment

I grew up in the 3 belt era, the WBO was active but it was kind of like the IBO is now. Wasn’t until the 2000’s the WBO felt legitimate.Comment

MoonCheese MusoMeanderings - with Haney giving up his 135 titles it looks like we've lost another 'regular' belt by attrition. No official acknowledgement by the WBA yet, but I expect them to declare Gervonta Davis their sole lightweight 'monarch' as they did Wood when LSC finally relinquished his belt at 126.
Similar will probably happen at 147 as Crawford likely won't fight at the weight again. Super-middle will be a stubborn one as Canelo is likely to remain in the division for a while and I have doubts about whether the WBA will force a consolidation with Morrell.Comment

The WBA recognized the WBO in 2000
The WBC recognized the WBO in 2004
The IBF recognized the WBO in 2006
For most people it's somewhere in that 2004-2006 range that it became a real belt.
The IBO would have already been recognized by the others if it were ever going to be. It was founded in 1988, the same year as the WBO.Comment
