    Goddamn ... Dempsey era maybe?

When King stole Ali from Arum, maybe?

Definitely by the time Floyd left Arum.

You know what, having done like no research at all on this specifically, I'm gonna guess it's Bob Arum's fault.

That's just part of social media and the internet in general. You can turn joes who are rather irrelevant into "figures" or "celebrities".

There is no reason promoters should have just as much attention as the fighters. They should be working behind the scenes and putting on the big fights that the fans want to watch. Though with cameras on everything these days for every 100 million fight youtube channel that needs their own angles, it gives more and more light to these people behind the scenes.

I'm not entirely against giving spotlights to people who are more deserving of it, but at the end of the day, we don't watch promoters slug it out in the ring and put their health on the line. It's the fighters.

When I started watching boxing in 2001, I could barely tell you who was promoting who or what they looked like besides Don King. My whole focus was on the fights and the fighters. That's how it should be.

It really started with Pact**rds fellating anything Manny-related. Which extended to Top Rank.

Mexicans started realizing most browns were on GBP so they rode there.

Blacks are desperate to have a place at the table so their affinity for Al is not surprising.

racist blacks who will defend anything a black promoter does or doesnt do even if it drags down the sport as a whole.

perfect example in 2023: the so-called biggest promoter in boxing goes the entire 2023 without a tv deal and not one article written about it. they were lucky to have showtime throw them a lifelline for the dates they did get this year, but other than that they have NO OUTLET. but nobody bothers asking about it because they know what will happen in response.

Promoters will have alot less fanboys if fighters were showing themselves to the world and communicating with fans.

That's the only reason all but one have fans, as for the other side of the street click, we know what's their deal.

I believe it happened because people started to realise (probably helped by social media) just how much power the promoters wielded... and therefore that it was often the promoters and the networks who were the problem.

Casuals just appreciate and get excited about a big fight when it comes around. The rest of us have fights we want to see, an order that we want proven, and we lament the missed opportunities from a sporting perspective.

So it stands to reason that I blame certain fighters, promoters and networks for not making big fights happen.

Nothing to do with personality. Personally I think Eddie Hearn is a classic southern loudmouth wideboy wannabe. Basically he's a ****. But I think he's one of the more honest promoters going around, which is obviously measured against a pretty low bar.

Networks/Promotional outfits probably bought/made loads of social media accounts and forum accounts.

Also there’s the racial angle that PBC were going with that naturally attracted black Americans that would defend anything that is perceived to be racially charged.

plus Brit posters that naturally defended Eddie Heard
