Charlo dared to be great by jumping two weight classes to try to beat arguably one of the best P4P in the sport. It just wasn't meant to be.
Folks are very bandwagon in nature. Charlo fought well, he just wasn't strong enough or good enough to beat Canelo. He realized this during the fight - what's wrong with that? He still tried his best to catch Canelo with some power shots. He fought smart (smarter than expected). He didn't run. He stood there, for the most part. I guess some people wanted him to fight like Spence, and fight himself into being knocked out. He wasn't going to be that careless - by running face first into Canelo's fist, smh. Canelo is too strong, chin is solid.
Charlo got essentially shut out, but it would be absurd to say that he was damaged physically against Canelo. He didn't roll over and get demolished. He can still live to fight another day....at 154. There is still interest in seeing him face Crawford and/or Tsyzu.
I got my money on Crawford against Charlo and on Charlo against Tsyzu. However you look at it, Charlo is still marketable against both opponents.
Paulie Malinaggi called it right when he said Canelo messed things up, by agreeing to fight Charlo. Charlo really should not have gotten in the ring with Canelo, but money talks. Canelo should have fought Benavidez - a truer sized middleweight. He should have left Jermell for Crawford, Tsyzu, Spence, etc.. Some fight fans don't get mismatches.....they get duped easy. Folks like you, calling me out, got duped.
