The answer is simpley. The winners of Pac/Cotto and Berto/Shane would make five times as much money fighting Mayweather as they would each other. And Mayweather would still make more fighting Valero than the winners of these two matches would make combined fighting each other. In spite of what they may say, no one fights strictly for pride. Cotto should be insulted, Arum's plan?

The amount of disrespect Miguel Cotto is getting is unbelievable. To even consider looking past him like this is insulting. His own promoter is talking about a projected date for a Pacquiao/Mayweather as if Pac is guaranteed to win. This is almost exactly like 2001 and the whole possible superfight between Felix Trinidad and Roy Jones, Jr. What happened there? Tito fought someone he had no business being in the ring with and got spanked by a superior fighter named Bernard Hopkins.

Looking ahead only serves to take your focus off of what is directly in front of you. Cotto is not to be overlooked at all. Now, I wonder what all these journalists will be saying if Cotto stretches Pac Man out? With Floyd still try to take a fight with Manny or will he try to establish his legacy by fighting either Cotto or Mosley?

Manny has already said he plans on fighting maybe one or two more times after Cotto as he wants to retire and run for office in the Phillipines. Arum signs Cotto to a new, 2 year contract, using the superfight with Pacquiao as leverage. Cotto has been Arum's cash cow for some time now. What if Arum in reality wants Cotto to win? A Cotto win would be ideal as Cotto is still going to be around after Pacquiao leaves. A Cotto/Mayweather fight would be a great fight and people have been asking for a Cotto/Mayweather fight for nearly 3 years if I'm not mistaken. Also, the possibility of a Cotto/Margarito rematch would be there (I'm sure Cotto would want that). You can even have a unification match between Cotto and Mosley as Mosley definetly deserves a rematch.

In my opinion, a Mayweather/Pacquiao fight is an easy win for Mayweather as Pacquiao's style is tailor made to get countered by Mayweather's lead right hand and check left hook all night long. In a fight between Mayweather and Cotto, Mayweather still holds the edge, but Cotto's style is more problematic for Mayweather as Cotto fights in a similar fashion to Jose Luis Castillo, the man that gave Mayweather so many problems.

I agree with this part of your statement. Arum has a habit of picking the winners of big fights before they happen (ex: Zahir Raheem-Eric Morales, Cotto-Margarito) and planning ahead of himself. After Cotto KO's Pacquaio, it would not surprised me if Arum still tried to put together a Mayweather/Cotto fight, telling Mayweather that he will have to fight Pac first if he wants to fight Cotto.

I can understand what a lot of you guys are saying about the negotiations process, but there are some things to keep in mind about the negotiations and the potential fight.

1) Floyd made $10 million guaranteed against JMM. He can make at least that much fighting Mosley in his next fight.

Pac has only made the huge money against Hatton and De La Hoya and the combined purses in the Pac/Cotto match are less than what Floyd made against JMM. Pac can fight whoever he wants in his next fight, but the only way Pac will make as much or more in his next fight than he is making against Cotto is if he fights Mayweather.

pac don't care! $1 million goes a looooooooooooooooooooooooong way in the PI. floyd can't afford his extravagant lifestyle... floyd needs pac, pac don't need floyd.

2) If Pac/Cotto does not do at least 1 million buys, Arum does not have a leg to stand on in terms of negotiations. Pac/Cotto are supposed to be two of the biggest stars in the sport. If they can't sell more in their fight than a returning Mayweather did against a guy who doesn't draw on PPV, there is no way Arum can logically demand 50 percent of the proceeds.

WOW, I couldn't have said it any better. Don't know if Arums plan is to upset Cotto, but I'm sure Cotto is pissed. Hell I'm pissed for him. But I see Cotto beating Pacman, and going on to fight Mayweather. And like you said I give the edge to Mayweather as well, but it will be a much tougher fight than if Mayweather fights Pacman. But if Arum still tries to offer Mayweather 20m for a fight with Pacman, then the Cotto fight will have to wait.
