There's no point Joyce trying to turn into Floyd maywether at his age, he's not got time to change anything... just pack on weight, at least try and attempt to block the occasional shot and go from there
Joyce Put on More Weight LOL It's over

I find it very strange ( well not really we’re on boxing scene ) posters think Joyce just walks in like Frankenstein with hands down slow footed ,if you’d listen to most boxing pundits and actually studied his fights you’d know they dint really watch much boxing footage either .
Controlling the fighting line, the point of entry. I do think the gas tank will become more relevant this time round. I also think Joyce wins this. Your technical points regarding the proper angles, eliminating punches all point to Joyce having to be more defensively responsible, which I think he can do by not letting Zhang walk him into big shots (as you say). Joyce knows he can take the shots...
Go watch the Parker fight ,he only gets hit clean a few times each round sometimes none because he’s picking off shots slipping shots or riding them that and his opponents usually are retreating they usually take more shots per fight ,yes he leaves himself open more in spurts getting hit clean so it causes an exaggerated reaction . You’d think boxers arent supposed to get hit at all when certain fighters take a punch ? Aggressive fighters aren’t supposed to take less punches anyway , yet Joyce brings a total damage on him at a very low level .
Yes there’s a few fights like Takam one he takes more then usual but add the rest up he’s hardly aging fast as you’d be led to believe there’s not much mileage really he’s actually doing less because having guys on defensive mode , less is coming back to him minus a shot here and there .
The only fight he was severely hit clean in was in fact his last fight but that’s not the norm ,I don’t understand boxing media I really don’t . If Joyce can box like he did vs Parker at 280 , Zhangs definitely going to lose unless he can manage a work rate to match Joyce and there’s no evidence of that if it becomes a fight of volume .Last edited by juggernaut666; 09-22-2023, 12:17 PM.Comment

Rewatching the Parker fight, which is arguably one of his best performances, he was getting caught plenty. He repeatedly tried to pull back to his rear foot and then retreat in a straight line, which is why he kept getting tagged by Parker's triple jabs. He habitually favors that defense, which puts him right in line with the left hand, which is a big portion of why he was getting tagged repeatedly by Zhang. He rarely takes his head offline. Just leaves it right there in the center. When he did, Parker was tagging him with left hooks. He ate over a hundred power punches in that fight. It would really help him to learn to circle out after that pull retreat. Just that would make a big difference in his ability to maintain his pressure, especially against orthodox fighters.

One thing in his favor is that Zhang didn't actually drop him, and that Zhang does gas out pretty fast. So if the doctor doesn't stop the fight, he's got a good chance. But he's going to be eating a lot of leather from Zhang. Zhang has to be hard to prepare for because how are you going to find sparring partners who are southpaw and hit that fast while being that big?Last edited by crimsonfalcon07; 09-22-2023, 12:29 PM.Comment

He wasn’t get caught plenty he got caught literally with just one clean shot in the first round alone and a few more the next round , Parker’s best rnd was round 5 and he still lost lost that round .

The rest you posted is a little true but doesn’t change the fact Joyce doesn’t receive to much accumulative damage in fights there’s many others who actually do get hit more but no one talks about it because no one is focused on them they are focused more on a fighting style from a 6”6 footer that comes forward with weird angles and it’s misleading , Mahkmudov for instance has an actual poor defense ability , Chisora has taking more punches to last 5 decades no one ever tells him he’s going to have a short career though and he’s still fighting ? Lol
It all comes down to different criteria that suits ppl . I mean if Joyce ever got sparked out like Whyte did to Chisora you’d all be saying it’s time to retire but he’s a warrior, When Joyce takes a single punch everyone acts like it’s the end of the world and he hasn’t been knocked out ever like that . I'm not really concerned yet about Joyce getting knocked out. As I said, he didn't even get dropped. But he gets hit with a lot of lead shots. Very susceptible to the southpaw cross lead. He doesn't tend to get caught by too much follow-up stuff because he's usually fading away from the rear hand, but that's against orthodox opponents. Against Zhang, it's more of a problem. Check my posts and you'll see that I haven't mentioned those others. Don't try to pin that straw man crap on me. Stick to talking Joyce.

Facts are that he's susceptible to that first punch because he keeps his head in the same channel when he punches. He's susceptible to southpaw followups because he just does a pull and retreat in a straight line along the rear foot. If he circled out after the initial dip out, he'd get hit way less. He doesn't really parry well. And he didn't make adjustments when Zhang was catching him. Top fighters don't keep getting hit by the same punch over and over again until they get stopped. Hopefully he made adjustments in camp, but he's got major defensive issues, and those don't just get corrected after so many years building bad habits. Fortunately, the heavyweight division isn't the most skilled.
In the plus column for him, I don't think Zhang really TKOed him. That was a doctor stoppage. He's tough, and for such a big guy, he has a good gas tank. If he doesn't get stopped in the first 6, chances are he wins the fight due to his late game output and Zhang's poor gas tank.Comment

people just do not watch fights... it might well be an appreciation thing lol: I used to voluntarily teach at my Son's school, very few tackers, while professionals paying a premium price for the classes seemed to understand the importance of the things they were learning... The analogy is, when we were coming up, there was no Youtube, and it was a major fiasco to tape a class... Now? Any fight you want you have a chance of finding tape of... but like the free class people don't take advantage! Drives me nuts! When I was coming up at 13 my teacher was offering a class for those who wanted to train seriously, no money was involved... I thought I was the luckiest kid that moved to Baltimore!

Yes Joyce was getting whacked in the Parker fight big time 'But it was still a great performance'.

He habitually favors that defense, which puts him right in line with the left hand, which is a big portion of why he was getting tagged repeatedly by Zhang. He rarely takes his head offline. In terms of his endurance, durability and intensity.
What people seem to be overlooking, is that Joyce does get hit with his opponent's best punchers 'Well he was vs Parker and Zhang'.
So although the number of those punches may not be super high 'It is those type of punchers which deck and **** out most other opponents. And it is those type of punchers if you survive them, cause serious damage'.
Joyce was damaged after the Parker fight, the damage he sustained in that fight is underrated 'I saw a interview with Joyce the following day, and he was clearly damaged. Reminiscent of the interview I once saw with Evander Holyfield give post Lennox Lewis I, not as whacked but Joyce was clearly damaged'.
Joyce once again vs Zhang I, was hit by Zhang's best punches 'Joyce was not decked or knocked out, but the damage he sustained forced the stoppage'.
I never picked Joyce to win the first fight out right, and thought it was a unnecessary fight to take 'It was bad match making for Joyce, factoring in his position in the game at the time of the first fight'.
Joyce in order to win this rematch, has to take the fight into the second half 'And somehow minimize the damage sustained, because he will most likely be getting whacked again at some point'.
Note: I have even theorized the Parker fight may have chronically effected Joyce 'Parker is a solid puncher, in my opinion rated in the top - 8 most powerful punchers at Heavyweight'.
I think the Zhang I fight was bad matching making, after such a damaging fight vs Parker 'This is the third fight now in a row, where Joyce potentially will yet again be in another brutal fight' etc.

Seriously go watch the entire Parker fight when you have time see how little he lands flush power shots on Joyce the same fight that’s made out like Joyce had to walk through hell to wear him down ? Lol

The most you’ll see is round 5 . I’m not contesting he wasn’t hit but it was not like he kept getting bombarding he had Parker running half the time so how’s he getting hit a lot , he nearly hit Parker across the ring with a back shot at one point . If you watch it again come back here and tell me if I’m crazy or not or is it everybody else ? Lol
Joyces opponents are getting damaged more from Stivernes elephant man face to DDD broken eye socket ,I think he actually took years off of Parker’s career but they’ll tell you all about his defense and speed etc etc…then tell you Joyce is getting punished to much it’s just Weird .Comment

If you had time you’d watch every Joyce fight and realize he actually gets hit less on average then most the heavyweight guys if you really tallied up,every single shot landed that would cause damage so mainly because it’s usually one way traffic minus a few fights ? I’m done here .

I expect Joyce to win in fact maybe 9th round stoppage but wheather he gets hit a lot or not wouldn’t change his past fights so ?Last edited by juggernaut666; 09-23-2023, 12:54 PM.Comment

I did... I agree. He shut down Parker who looked gassed, was able to land occasionally while going backwards, and yes, occasionally got a punch in. Parker was shut down, he was unable to raise a serious offense because Joyce had him going backwards... Also, I only noticed the triple jab twice, in the early rounds.Seriously go watch the entire Parker fight when you have time see how little he lands flush power shots on Joyce the same fight that’s made out like Joyce had to walk through hell to wear him down ? I do not see any indication that Joyce was vulnerable in this fight. On the contrary he walked down the smaller man and never let him set up an attack. Parker had never lost a fight by KO prior to...Comment
