It’s actually embarrassing to see this defense used, the man offered to come down a whole division as well in order to make the fight but it’s about money? How badly do you want to want a rematch, im willing to come down to give you some help in looking better and they still can’t negotiate. Canelo did not want that fight, PERIOD. Money is the excuse and folks are really trying to push the narrative. Dude said I’ll come take your straps a lower division of too and Canelo said “NO THANKS!!” Do y’all even comprehend how disrespectful that is for Bivol to say I’ll come down to your level and whoop your asssssss and you still find a way not to fight him. Let’s stick to the real narrative which is what I just mentioned. Dude gave him numerous ways to try and get his revenge and he said “nah im good.” There ain’t no way charlo vs Canelo outsells a bivol rematch, if y’all wanna be real, why? Most of us don’t feel charlo has a shot, but what most of us do feel is Canelo could get stopped by bivol. The Canelo fans would buy into the revenge angle as well since y’all fall for any okie doke he hits y’all with.
Yall wanna pay $90 to watch what is likely a BS undercard, and a main event of Canelo pulling someone up two divisions again, have fun.

10 years from now, when people look at Canelo's resume, they're not going to talk about purses, or the timing of the fights, they're not going to notice all the A side advantages, or hydration clauses either; but they will notice two losses that weren't even attempted at getting avenged.
Oh, and they'll probably think "What the **** is 155?"Elastic Recoilz likes this.

When legacy and ego is on the line... a financial split wouldnt stop a fighter from attaining it. 60/40. Bivol would have taken. Ruiz got $6mil for Joshua 1, rematch got $10mil. Something similar would have got the fight made IF he really wanted it.

This was an comment section was an interesting read. Let me see if I can sum it up:
Camp A) Canelo got dusted, he knew he had zero chance, and refused anything that Bivol wanted to avoid the whupping that was coming. He is ducking and spitting out "save my image" garbage to preserve his image as best he can.
Camp B) Bivol is a non-entity who cannot even fight his main rival in the current environment. He was an idiot who turned down his best payday when he should have known he could beat Canelo again and just took the opportunity. He will likely have the one win over Canelo and nothing else for his career. He had no leverage, zero business sense, and his career will be a blip on the radar screen as Canelo lights up the entire screen as an ATG despite the loss.
Sure does not seem to be anything between these two camps.
Except of course me. I think the deal killer was Bivol's insistence that Canelo put his SMW title on the line. No chance Canelo was going to do that, as Bivol took him down so easy the first time. Bivol saw no advantage to the fight happening at LHW again as it opened no other doors for him, but having the titles at SMW would. If Canelo agreed to the put up his titles, it happens at all the same money as Bivol now has something to gain. If Bivol agreed to LHW, I feel it happens and Bivol gets a little extra cheddar this time as the legit winner of the first fight.
To me, the division killed the rematch. Neither man ducked, just neither man saw an advantage for their career to how the other wanted the fight to go down.A.B Counterhooks likes this.

That fight wouldn't net him anywhere near Canelo cash. However, it isn't always about the money, especially if you're already a millionaire....and let's not forget that it is a sport. Canelo needed a rematch, Bivol didn't. Of course Charlo knows what time it is. He hasn't fought Canelo yet. Bivol has.

Like Benavidez now and Golovkin when he was hiding out at 155 - but yeah, he cleared out the SMW belts and fought Lara, Kovalev and Bivol. I'm convinced Bivol was a cherry pick that went wrong after he saw Bivol perform badly against Richards.
But good/bad business is not only about the money you make. It's about whether you can make money and not be unfairly robbed. Bivol came that close to losing against Canelo because of corrupt judges - but you don't seem to want to acknowledge that. Why not?
Do you know how much Bivol made in the first fight? How much Canelo offered him in the second fight? If you do then please send us a link. I'm not just blindly accepting Canelo's word that they tried hard to make the fight. It's all on him as the A side. If he offered Bivol the same or barely more than he got for the first fight then it wasn't a fair offer considering the high risk of being screwed on the cards - as already happened when it should have been scored 118-110 but ended up a disgraceful 115-113.
Bivol will have to reset and fight someone at 168 for decent money, and/or wait for the Beterbiev fight, and/or wait for Beterbiev to get beaten and challenge that fighter.

Not a Canelo fan but you can't blame Canelo for this one.
The guy taking the lesser money is the one ducking.
