you respect a guy for throwing a bunch of inaccurate punches just to steal the fight cause he doesn't have the skill to hit hopkins cleanly. pretty sure boxing is hit and not be hit instead of calzaghe's throw aimlessly and get countered strategy. i respect him for inventing a new sport that is based on volume and not substance. good job joe!

Hopkins had been on the decline stamina wise for years. Not to say Calzaghe was at his peak either, but it would have been interesting if you could at least take the two at the same age (of where Clazaghe was) if you couldn't get them in their prime.

Either way...I've always maintained that it was not Calzaghe's fault for not getting the Hopkins fight sooner....that's on Hopkins for not moving up. Of course, I do put blame on Calzaghe for not moving up to fight a Prime Roy Jones Jr. either.
was'nt bhop in the p4p when zaghe beat him?.....and what did an older bhop did to the undefeated pavlik ?....

Exactly. 40 year old names at that.

RJJ had been brutally KTFO twice already.

Hopkins just came off one of the ugliest fights i have ever seen and he was already 43.

I think calling a fighter a really good fighter is already good enough. It's not like "really good fighters" appear all the time.

Calzaghe was a very, very good fighter. Deal with it.

His resume wasn't the greatest, but that doesn't anything away from his skills.

Kelly Pavlik is a good fighter with great power. Nothing special, you'll see a former WW beat him over 12 rounds, at his own weight.

If they weren't over 40 boxers at the time of the fight it would be different. I think that goes without saying but you just have to have a come back right?

If cal-slappy hits like such a bitc h, how did many of his opponents faces' get so busted up. How did Byron Mitchell get knocked out? How did lacy's career get destroyed?

I can understand a lot of the criticism, because he had so much time in between fights and took a lot of soft touches, but it's easy to see the hate when you can't bear to give him credit for any of his wins. Dude is a master boxer with a very high boxing iq. That is undeniable.
