I wonder how many people would still pick Spence.

If ODH stopped him mid-fight in 2006, Crawford gets him out of there no later than the 4th round at WW.

Bud would TKO Mayorga and Maidana.

He never beat elite fighters but he always gave them a varying degree of difficulty and made them have to deal with his awkward movement.

I wouldn't be surprised if Crawford starts swinging mean and wild early like Forrest did in retaliation. Could Mayorga take those shots, walk past those shots, offer anything back? He'd honestly have his best chance if Crawford sticks around in orthodox as he clearly couldn't figure out Spinks who was more imposed on than Crawford ever would be. I don't think Mayorga would ever win a UD so the best he could do is what he did to Forrest.
Who cares…………..Mayorga proved to be NOTHING against REAL fighters.

The perception of Crawford as a special talent must not be based on the lone Spence fight, but on his overall value as a fighter.

Then again, it happens that every great fighter has his bête noire. Forrest was for Mosley, Mayorga was for Forrest. Or, if you will, Holyfield was for Tyson. Sometimes it just works that way.

All things considered, Mayorga happened to hit the jackpot with Forrest. After that, he lost to practically everybody, except a shot fernando Vargas.

Mayorga made a lucrative career out of looking very good (and entertaining) against Forrest, and then getting beat up by the top tier. He'd have done terribly against Crawford.

This. Bud wins but honestly mayorga is more successful than pure boxers. think about it, crawford is a master boxer if you try to outbox him you get schooled you cant do that better than him but you come in wild with odd angles and all that it will turn it into a sloppy fight. This is also why say emmanual agustus gave people such hard fights, he was just a weird fighter and very durable. mayorga does better than spence, khan, brook, those types.

Dont forget mayorga gave Trinidad free shots, the guy has a chin, yeah he was stopped by tito and DLH but they had to give him a prolonged beating.

He'd get pieced up and stopped.

I loved Mayorga, he was entertaining and a complete ****ing headcase. But he was way too wild and sloppy for someone at Buds level.

Not a single top fighter stopped Mayorga in 4 or less. Margarito who went the distance with Pacquiao was knocked around the ring by Mosley TKO9. Mayorga was 1 second from the distance before the perfect finisher left hook, which followed up a very well placed rabbit punch.

Turn off the emotions for a second: other than the guy with two broken eye sockets, what big name did Crawford ice in 4? Spence/Gamboa/Benavidez/Porter were all almost at championship round stoppages. Mayorga is more durable than all of those names and he had impressive stamina for being a smoker.

It's more likely that Mayorga does what Cooper did to Holyfield and catch Crawford with a good shot off a weird angle on the side of the temple or the chin that disorients him early on. Then Crawford would recollect and break a slower Mayorga down into later rounds before winding up. Mayorga was heavy handed so that's why his punches knocked so many fighters off balance.
