I feel like top rank is keeping their hands out of this one but will push to promote the winner

Stop it with "Lopez not responsible for the Loma win" that is a idiotic a statement as they come.
This false narrative is entirely why Lopez has looked terrible since then. He's a talented fighter, but he bought into his own hype and let his ego take over, and that's always bad when it stops you from improving. Other notable fighters who have done the same thing include Ryan Garcia and Berlanga. I'm tempted to throw Tyson Fury in there too. Feel like he gets in his own way far too often. Maybe Canelo lately as well, with his delusional comments about how nobody can stand up to his power, even though that's two straight opponents who could. I never thought Lopez was really responsible for the victory over Loma, and his last fights have demonstrated that he's not at the level he thinks he is.
His past fights just demonstrated what you said that his ego got big but you seem to be contradicting yourself in you're post.
Lopez beat Loma rather easily something Haney couldnt do that's a fact.
If you buy all these BS excuses by Loma then you surely have to buy Canelo excuses for his lose,, Ryan for his weight drained, Wilder for his, Joshua for his losses etc.
Just stop it Loma was beaten by the better fighter. Taylor might beat Lopez this Saturday but don't try to discredit Lopez past achievements that's straight BS, if I want I can find something to discredit any fighters top wins and it Wouldn't be that hard either.Last edited by Regge; 06-07-2023, 08:22 PM.Comment

It's been broken down repeatedly in the past. Loma chose not to throw punches. He threw a tiny fraction of his usual numbers of jabs, resulting in lower overall punch output. The guy had surgery the next day. That's a far cry from Wilder's nonsense after Fury 2.

When someone is shutting down another's offense, you see high output from them and you certainly don't see the other person take over in late rounds and start putting it to them. And you certainly don't get dethroned by a 30-1 underdog mandatory. Watch Inoue v Paul Butler if you want to see what it looks like when a more skilled power puncher shuts down another's offense and makes them not want to punch. Or any of the No Más Chenko fights for that matter. In none of those fights did the guy who was "afraid to punch" take over in later rounds. That's just the more recent examples. You always hear the commentators talk about how someone just needs to start punching and try to get that puncher's chance when someone is shutting down offense, and you NEVER see it happen. And EVEN if it did happen, you'd see it turn into a close fight. Loma finished that fight with nearly a 44% connect rate compared to 27.8% for Lopez, and 66% of those were power punches. He's historically been way more jab heavy, and rounds 8-11 he doubled his jab output compared to any of the previous rounds. That's the behavior of a guy who's decided to take it off cruise control, not someone getting outclassed.
And a fighter who is skilled enough to shut Loma down and "make" him not throw punches with his lead should CERTAINLY be able to easily handle the competition he's had since, and not look like crap. The issue is that "Lopez is a maestro talent who made Loma look easy" isn't supported by any of the evidence. It's a false narrative that made him think he was more than he was, and he's done nothing to demonstrate a high level of skill since. Not. One. Fight.
He has a lot of talent, so he really could become more, but he needs to pull his head out and see things straight. So should the people who think he outskilled Loma, because he flat didn't. I expect another flat performance from him against Taylor. He's going to come out just like he did against Kambosos, Martin, etc, and try to take Taylor's head off. And Taylor is probably going to walk him into stuff all night long.Comment
