Wise move
He loses again and he can save face a bit, saying he's fighting at 175
Lose at 168 and you lose all your titles and status there.
People saying he has balls etc. More like hes covering his arse from a likely loss.Last edited by deathofaclown; 05-07-2023, 02:59 PM.Comment

I've always been neutral toward Alvarez, though he's had his moments. But now, I'm not really interested in what he does. Bivol will tear him apart again, so why bother? He's showing rapid signs of regression and has become so one-dimensional and boring, I'd rather him take the Ryder win and his millions of dollars and retire, letting the prime fighters carry on.Comment

I think that with all the fights he has had, he clearly has balls. For this decision, he is being smart because he will have those titles to fall back on if he loses. So I consider him both tough and smart. The question becomes if Bivol counters that with a different proposal and what happens from there.Comment

Its a terrible idea. Bivol probably stops him. I KNOW his management hate this idea but Canelo is delusional enough to think he can win.
And at 175 he takes another L but keeps all the belts at 168. It’sactually less risk than Benavidez at 168 since he could lose his belts there.Comment

In my opinion, Canelo knows the fight with Bivol isn't going to happen because Bivol wants it at 168 for all the belts (although the WBC will refuse to allow Bivol to fight for theirs). So, this is a way for Alvarez to save face by saying he wants the fight under the same terms and when it doesn't happen he can say it's not on him. I recognize I could be wrong, though. Canelo is a warrior. I'm not a hater. And he may just be true to his word and wants to accomplish what he set out to accomplish the first time. But my instincts say otherwise. I'll allow Alvarez (and his fans) to make me eat my words in a sense: if Canelo takes the fight at 168 (because if he fights Bivol again at 175 he's got the excuse of being outside his best weight if he loses) I'll change my avatar to a picture of him when the fight is announced and I won't change it for a year. Or, if he fights Bivol at 175 and wins (not a gift decision - debatable is okay, but not a gift) I'll change my avatar to a picture of Canelo after the fight and I won't change it for a year.
Let's see some other fans on here make some similar "bets".Comment

I'd even say that I still have doubts about Canelo deliberately being on PEDs and that he has a lot of qualities as a person and a fighter and I realize that he is not the judges but there is nothing worse than when he is given rounds he did not win. If Bivol had slipped and fell and they counted it a knockdown, Canelo would have won a fight that he was dominated in which is criminal. Bad judging hurts Canelo's reputation indirectly or directly, which may not be right, but it is still a stigma that he carries. So the motto is "Get rich with Canelo, but expect you could be robbed in a close fight or not a close fight".Comment
