I hate to bust your bubble but people did stick to the topic it clearly says better boxer, (made no mention of jab, movement, etc.,) not pure boxer then it goes on to say:The thread asked which is the better boxer (this is jab, foot movment, head movement, defense) not who is the greater fighter. Guys ran in here talking about how great sugar is rather then strict boxing ability. It had nothing to do with greatness but who is the better pure boxer. Clearly that would be mayweather not sugar. Sugar was an offensive juggernaut who was flashy and dazzling who was a boxer puncher that threw combinations. he wasn't the pure boxer mayweather is though. If people would have stuck to the topic rather then looking to bring down one fighter the answer would be simple. Mayweather was a better pure boxer then sugar. End thread.
Floyd had more longevity and better defensive but Sugar ray had more offense and fought better competition who should rank higher in the pound for pound?
Sounds like an honest, unbiased question to me.
Now under those guidelines, most people naturally would say Sugar Ray and they are correct. Not because of some false fallacy that Floyd beat somebody's favorite fighter, but it is simply, the truth. Pound for Pound most lists have Srl far ahead of Floyd because of who he beat and when he beat them, making him the "better boxer".
Floyd boys just have to learn to live with the general consensus of how not just a large portion of experts and hardcore boxing fans, but the casual fan at large views him. That nobody is looking to "tear him down" lol, but give their honest assessent when these threads are presented. Its always somebody's hating on him because nobody will just put him ahead of Sugar Ray or Hearns or Duran just because. News alert if he didn't beat better guys in their prime, it ain't happening.Last edited by djtmal; 05-05-2023, 08:59 AM.Comment

Hm...I would say u would have a case if it wasn't these type of threads at least 3 times out of a week. Here's the realty. No one is taking up for mayweather. Truth is . Mayweather has garnished a bunch of turd fans who are hell bent on some kind of mental revenge by living through previous past greats because in their opinion no one in mordern times have been able to stop him. So it feels good for them to pick a fighter such as chavez sr or leonard and make statements like "mayweather would be knocked out in 3 rounds" in realty mayweather doesn't even have a history of a weak chin. Regardless of who it is mayweather is not some simple fight for anyone not even a prime hearns. The guy was a tough fighter with tough defense....Here's also the realty all of this vs is imaginary (Do you get that) imaginary. Thats what exposes u guys. The consistency week in week out thread after thread this past fighter would should could have beat mayweather that past fighter would have destroyed mayweather. There hasn't been any bert sugars sitting at the table to truly debate the outcome mayweather vs leonard or any logical debates. All turds on message boards angry that no one in mordern day has been able to stop mayweather lol So u can't tell me anything about most fans agree to this or that. Most fans on here who create tiring threads about mayweather and past greats aren't fans of the sport at all their tuuuurds. Turds that are irritated that no one was able to stop mayweather in modern times. They themselves actually believe being bitter and imaginary pick em fights hold true last thing. Mayweather is a better boxer then sugar. From a greatness level I am not mad at anyone ranking sugar higher. But to rank sugar higher u are basing it off of his individual wins. Duran, hearns, Hagler (thought Hagler beat him and hearns in the rematches) Benitez. He has the better single wins. But a argument can also be made for mayweather being greater based on just sure crazy longevity. That debate can go ether way depending on what u like. But sense is not the realty for threads like this. no one is here to be sensible. Its all about living through past greats and downing another fighter based on being extremely butt hurt. We will wait for the next thread on the saga "said past great knocks mayweather out in 2"

No I disagree.

Here the poster posted a simple question, the majority post simple answers and Mayweather pundits just can't accept the truth as it is.
If Floyd isn't favored, they gotta twist the narrative, make excuses, or shape it so that it favors Floyd.
Greater encompasses more than beating 3 guys, its the magnitude of the all. I think Floyd achieved more and influenced the sport more this is where greater has meaning which has nothing to do with who is a better boxer, it's very hard to compare guys from different eras,
Or try to divert it to Manny Pacquaio
Pac is never even considered
The man here clearly is not a Floyd turd. He asked a simple question with simple criteria:
Better Boxer Floyd or Sugar Ray Leonard?
Floyd had more longevity and better defensive but Sugar ray had more offense and fought better competition who should rank higher in the pound for pound?
Even pointed out both guys strong points. This is clearly not a "turd" post.
The majority said Sugar Ray. Deal with it. Nobody is going to feel sorry for Floyd boys if they can't accept the truth.

It's easier for the promotions to pull this sort of thing off, such as the "side of the street" PBC nonsense, if the fighters are content not fighting the best. Only took one look at Spence's face as he left the arena without comment after Bud stopped the guy that Spence didn't to know that he wanted no part of that smoke, for instance. If the fighters push for the fights and don't throw up all kinds of A-side BS, the fights get made. The ATG's signed contracts like that on the regular to make the fights, because they wanted to be the best.
Floyd is not responsible for the best not fighting the best. The issue today is multiple promotional outfits and belts. You used have one champ per weight class and fighters had to eliminate each other to get the number one contender spot for a title shot. That's not the case anymore. Different promotional outfits have different belts and mostly stage in-houses fights protect those belts.
It is only when there is too much money to pass up then they're ready to make cross-promotional fights.
And I blame Mayweather because his name comes out of the mouths of fighters ducking big fights on a regular basis. Just look at how he managed Tank's career. How many truly top guys has Tank faced under Mayweather's mentorship? There's a reason he never makes it into top fighter lists that are based on fighting ranked opponents.
You're welcome to disagree. I'm merely saying that if we want to talk about impact on the sport, it's inarguable that he has had a huge one, but it's debatable whether that impact was actually positive.
Here's another one: he really hugely popularized the Philly shell, but a majority of fighters that use it don't actually know the technical nuances that make it effective, when to use it, and when not to, and because they don't know when it makes them vulnerable, they get knocked out. The lower ranks are absolutely full of this sort of fighter, that drop the lead hand because Mayweather, but don't really know how it works. Like, you see these guys using it as pressure fighters, but they don't know how to roll the cross on the front foot and walk onto rear hand counters.
You are free to disagree with the point, but I hope it's clear that it's at minimum debatable.Comment

When hit with the truth:
Ray Leonard.
38-0 Prime Benitez, won by stoppage.
72-1 Duran undefeated in 8 years, won by stoppage.
32-0 Prime Hearns won, won by stoppage.
Those 3 wins rank higher than anything on Floyd’s resume.
Here comes the excuses/changing the narrative:
Greater encompasses more than beating 3 guys, its the magnitude of the all. I think Floyd achieved more and influenced the sport more this is where greater has meaning which has nothing to do with who is a better boxer,
Just say hey man. Given the critieria. Ray is the better boxer.
