So, as I understand, Ngannou and Wilder have both acknowledge on social media that they have a handshake agreement, and both have mentioned it publicly to hold the other one to it. Ngannou seems to be a free-agent at this point, so it remains to be seen how much of an obstacle PBC may be to Wilder.
I don't think it should ever be regarded as a duck if a fighter is angling for a bigger opportunity and pay day. A Ngannou fight is 10x bigger than a Ruiz Jr fight so Wilder would be a fool to pass up a crossover opportunity like that to fight an eliminator (which never guarantees anything anymore) with Ruiz Jr. As a boxing fan first, I am excited about the prospect of a Wilder-Ruiz Jr fight, but a Ngannou fight is just smarter business.
