Leigh Wood is gonna be kicking himself today.

Watched it back this morning and I just don’t understand why he started trading left hooks. I noticed him throwing it early in the fight too and didn’t understand why, it’s by far the most risky shot you can throw against a guy like Lara.

Wood boxed excellently for the most part I thought, I had him 5-1 up and I thought Lara was really feeling the pace. All Wood had to do was box behind the jab and continue picking Lara off with straight shots. However, he made the infamous mistake of exchanging hooks with a hooker and ****, the fight was over. I think he’ll look back at this fight as one that got away.

Yeah, bad decision on his part. He needs to tidy up his punch selection for the rematch and drill what to do if he gets dropped again (stay on his knees a bit, get up, spit the mouth piece, etc.)

Lara came out of the neutral corner and tried to push the ref out of the way to get at Wood before the ref had stepped away from Leigh and instructed them to resume fighting. I'm pretty sure that's against the rules and I'm surprised Ben Davison didn't protest about it before deciding to throw in the towel.

I think he could have just channeled his inner Haney and hung on (literally) for another 10 seconds then gone on to win the fight but that will never be known now.

Which is also why I think Wood can win a rematch, avoid throwing the left hook, keep up the jab to Lara's body and the pathway is there for a victory. I really think Lara struggles making 126 and is probably drained at that weight, which is why he's always gassing early and hates it to the body. I give Wood a very good chance at winning a rematch, though personally I'd rather see him take one fight in the interim because I want to see Lara/Warrington 3, cuz there's real bad blood there and I think Lara actually wants to hospitalize Warrington

I ain’t got much interest in Lara-Warrington 3 tbh. I just think Lara is a level above him. Lara was on route to stopping him again in the rematch I thought before Josh started using his head as a weapon.

Lara-Wood 2 I’d be interested in but I’d probably like to see Wood vs Warrington next tbh. It’s not as big as it could’ve been but it’s still a good fight.

Yeah, all he really needed to do was just keep it long and Lara couldn’t do anything.

he was busting him up as well. if he just carried on doing that for a couple more rounds and then maybe applied more pressure, It would’ve been the way to do it. There was no need to go in the pocket and start trading hooks at that point.

but I guess that’s the difference maker in boxing, a smarter fighter than wood would’ve known not to do that.

It goes to show it only ever takes one punch to turn a fight around.

It shows how dangerous it is because Wood actually landed his left hook first. Normally if you hit somebody while they're throwing, even with a jab, it affects their balance and they miss their shot. Not in that exchange though.

Wood's biggest problem was he was landing his hook earlier and took a very good one from Lara early on.

He was a victim of his early success and got a little overconfident . then he got caught trading.

I don't see him winning a rematch tbh
