the bay area has the largest concentration of filipino americans.

He actually has more advantage over american fighters because not only does he have his own country behind him but he also have all the filipino american behind him.

He would end up having 2 markets to tap into because the american people who are not philipino by blood would buy is fights and the Philipino americans would defintely buy is fights, He isnt competing with any other world famous athlete from the phillipines so the "He isnt american Card" is a no-no.

to the OP, its an obvious, but good point that you make. I believe Pac has done an excellent job of raising his marketability to a sometimes indifferent American crowd.

But, if Pac beats Cotto, and then Floyd in a megamatch (tall orders both) then it doesn't matter where he's from.

Your right about the sig, i think they are suffering from nuthuggertitis, brain growth syndrome, or just plain ******. you fail to realise that the pac vs marquez took place before pac vs oscar & hatton wins. those wins helped pac's star power & has probably pushed him into the american sports mainstream for good.

The funny thing about all of this is that mr.counterfeit cash's return & resounding victory vs marquez & ppv sales will inadvertently help pac vs cotto. his return will put so much more emphasis on this match up. it will do better than numero uno IMO.

Thats Easy... Marquez didnt make a splash yet to the Mwxican fans...look what Margarito was doing at that time.... There was NO 24/7 to help sell the tickets.
Pacquiao was just breaking through. After Pac /JMM 2 Pacquiao started to make his name big...just like Mayweather did. Except he did it better and fans remember DLH's SD loss and remember Floyd Ducking out instead of rematching...Compared to Pacquiao Making DLH QUIT![ Hit it bigger with Fans]
Then Mayweather fought Hatton ...A fat 147 Hatton And it went 9...Pacquiao fights Hatton @ his strongest 140 weight and BLASTED HIM....HIT IT BIG AGAIN.....Also Pac did all this at the Peak of an American recession!

None of this really matters because Manny is a more exciting fighter to watch and people know this. Cotto/Pac will show you what im saying..... No need to talk about it until then. With the splash Pacquiao has and the huge dedicated PR fans in PR and US...as one.....It gonna be BIG.

How was Hatton fat?

This has been done to death. Hatton just didn't have to cut weight for the scales all the way down to 140. He didn't weigh over 149 for his WW fight with Floyd. He basically just showed up at his normal JrWW fight-time weight which is close to 150...something that was a made sure of after seeing what happened in the Collazo fight when he showed up at 158. Get over it.

Cotto vs. Pac should do really well. Cotto has a Huge following and Puerto-Ricans love a good fighter from their Island.
With Pac's name as the opponent, it should do 1+ million.
Cotto could fight Floyd as well and they would do 1+ million as well.

Don't forget he had a huge following from Girls/Women. So you already have the boxing guys attention, now you have the Female attention...and for the guys that may not have liked boxing will go to the bar or the event because that's where the pie is. And then I'm sure we can include the Gay crowd.
