Comments Thread For: Arum: Usyk Wants 50-50 For Fury Fight; That's Not Right If Their Fight Is At Wembley

Hmm.
I would argue that in this ONE case, 50-50 is probably warranted.
Usyk is fresh off beating Anthony Joshua twice, and holds three belts. Or four.
Fury is lineal champion and draws money.
I'm not sure that Fury draws more casual fans to the sport. We know Usyk doesn't.
I say 50-50.
This is just team Fury doing its usual change the agreements game now . If Fury does his get out of a fight with this nonsense again he’s going to look like a real jerk again. His fanbase can’t be that out of touch with reality that at least another good portion of them will see exactly the type of guy he actually is .

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Usyk, and his accomplishments, but let's be real, he beat a guy who was KO'd by Fat Andy Ruiz! Tyson Fury is just a HUGE star! Let's put it this way, if Usyk was fighting Deontay Wilder in Las Vegas, and Tyson Fury was fighting Anthony Joshua in the UK, which fight does more money? I really want this fight to happen, and I feel like Arum is already setting up a "take it or leave it" situation. I want Usyk to take it! Usyk should also negotiate a rematch clause which states whatever percentage he's getting in the first fight, if he wins, Fury takes the same percentage in the rematch!

That's only your partisan speculation, not a fact. And there's no plan for Joyce to fight Fury.
I recall seeing him when he fought Usyk, and he was talked about as being very good. Usyk made him look like an un-coordinated giraffe, made a fool of him in fact, winning every round by a large margin..
All the guys he's fought since are fringe guys except for Parker who is not a top class guy, in any but this poor era. Stiverne was so old he needed a cane to walk with and looed as if he was putting his arms out, just to keep hi balance. I don't know if he even landed a single punch. . and ALL except Parker had VERY brittle chins with many of their losses being KOs. He fought Wallisch just a few fights ago, who'd been KO'd in 3 in his previous fight.
Perhaps except for Parker, Dubois was his best opponent, but with the way fights are "arranged" to give the advantage to "MY" guy, it loos to me that his brains trust, very carefully chose his opponents for their dicy chins. The way Mayweather always did. Guaranteed wins. Like Marciano's has-beens and never-was's. Carefully guided for sure wins.
Sam Peter's team did the very same for him for his first 20 or so fights. Gave him ferocious reputation, which hid his poor boxing ability.
Still, with .the very poor choices for Fury, you may be right-Last edited by edgarg; 01-16-2023, 08:16 PM.Comment

AJ losing to Ruiz is irrelevant. He was still one of the best known and most popular fighters on Earth when he fought Usyk, as the massive fees paid by the Arabs for both those fights proved. If Usyk didn't fight Fury and instead decided to defend his title belts against Wilder, the Arabs would very likely be bidding big for that fight too. Imo, Usyk could probably make more money fighting Wilder in the Middle East than Fury made fighting him in Vegas.

Nothing to do with that. Usually for big fights like this they want a lot more time to promote the fightComment

Usyk got huge purses for his last 2 fights against AJ, possibly more for the rematch than Tyson has ever earned for any single fight.
If the fight is in the UK he will be putting his 3 world title belts on the line and giving Fury home advantage. This is a 50/50 fight, wherever it happens.
but if you were involved in the business and making money from this fight, and you had one fighter that had sold out that same stadium easily in a much less anticipated fight and then fighter on the other side that would never be able to sell that stadium fighting the same calibre of fighter Dillian Whyte, would you not be thinking “we are obviously the ones generating most of the money here so why are we giving half away”?
belts do bring value, but its commercial value that brings people to the stadium, that’s why Joshua and Fury can fight in stadiums against anybody
Usyk have made good money in Saudi Arabia, but that’s not the point is it ? The point is if they fight in the UK, the stadium will be full and there’s only one of those two fighters that can fill that stadium really.
The likes of Top Rank and Warren haven’t been going for decades by giving half of their money away to outside sources, when the commercial value dictates their side is bringing in most of the revenue.
for a personal standpoint, I don’t care what each fighter gets, I just want to see the fight and if it’s 50-50 then good. But like I said, if I was involved in the business and putting on the event, I wouldn’t be happy giving away a bigger percentage than I should be when it comes to who is actually bringing in the money at Wembley.Comment
