Haymon started it, HBO ended it.
This sport is DEAD

HBO and Showtime dominated US boxing for decades and only worked together twice (one of which was a Haymon event btw).
As annoying as two sides of the streets were, it's the way it always was and fans were used to it.
But now we have three sides of the street (Fox/Showtime, ESPN, DAZN). So instead of getting most of the fights we want and a few not happening due to street sides, now most of the fights we want don't happen and we get a few when guys are on the same side of the street.
Showtime is Showtime as always. ESPN replaced HBO. But now there's also DAZN, so fewer big fights are happening in the "three street era" than happened under the old two street model.

That's true. Fighters being on the same street don't always guarantee fights will get made.Comment

Yep I barely watch fights anymore as I know the outcome....
Every "opponent" seems to have some sort of a title yet never heard of them.
The real boxing fights are starting to feel like they are a big Fantasy Fight as they only seem to happen once every couple years or so.Comment

Huge fan of Floyd while he was fighting but you would be a liar to deny his approach in the later years of his career to choose his own contract and conditions along with Haymons insistence on protecting his stable have changed the landscape of boxing
Everyone of these fighters want to be Floyd now
Also to add there's hardly any characters in boxing anymore espeically crazy ppl like iron Mike and mayorga etcLast edited by davef; 01-10-2023, 03:59 AM.Comment
