Why is losing once so horrible in the sport of boxing?

Because boxing is the most physically and mentally challenging sport on the planet, that's why.

Once you get to a certain level, the mental aspect of the sport transcends the physical by such a high degree. You'll hear pundits refer to boxing is much more mental than physical and it's true. Alsp, having limited tools (just hands as compared to mma) makes you light years sharper in your lizard brain. Boxers often see into future subconsciously. It's hard to describe if you haven't done it on a certain level. It's very much like playing poker on the highest level except that roledex of your mind is moving so fast it becomes innate and tribal.

Once you lose for the first time, you go through a lot of things mentally. You often doubt that you never had before. There is no programming for boxers to lose, you never train to lose and once you get the first loss, you learn how to lose which can have a ripple effect over your mental game; a bad one, especially if it's by knockout. Some fighters have a hard time pulling the trigger like they used to or become gun shy. Some lose confidence now when they never had those deficits prior and now they're a husk of what made them so special.

MMA doesn't have this because it's not as demanding as boxing is, it's true. We've seen it time and time again, mma fighters are mentally, physically, and skill-set weaker than boxers at the highest levels.

Fighting today is WAY more difficult than fighting in the past. There are tons of lifeless troll and hater bums in social media. Especially in YouTube and Twitter. There is a 20 IQ racist community called LDBC. Need Hitler treatment on all of them.

No matter how good a fighter you are, for example, they post a little stunning moment for years not even KD, or videos of the only defeat in your career are constantly on social media.

Only God knows how many hard times the old ATGs had in the ring. Of course, none of them are talked about or shown on video.

A revision in boxing is necessary. I think boxing will go through an overhaul eventually. The main problem of boxing is not things like cherrypicking, PEDS, money grabbing, biased judges etc., but low IQ, hater and racist audience. If the audience becomes more qualified, such problems will already disappear.

Btw, it's not only for boxing, it's difficult for sports overall.

It's not. It's current-era weak fighter mentality. They try to be like Floyd and hype themselves up and when they lose, they're mentally destroyed. Hamed, Broner, etc.

It's one of the main reasons why fighters don't fight often. The thought of losing terrifies them. They'd rather play the waiting game in the hope of getting the money fight. One single loss would derail the hype train.

This topic is so relevant. It should be stickied. I've been seeing posts just now that losing once is a dead end for any fighter. There's no more room for improvement, none, nada, zero.

Because boxers only fight overmatched patsys - so if you lose to one, it's super embarrassing.

In UFC, you're fighting killers every time out. So the expectations are different.

Most get a padded record and people talk like they are the second coming of Muhammed Ali so do the promoters and as soon as they meet some resistance they look average and mostly lose

It's all Mayweather's fault, his putrid legacy is damaging boxing even now

all this ¨I value my 0 more than anything¨ started with him

Now we have a sport full of divas afraid of taking any tough challenges
