Why is losing once so horrible in the sport of boxing?

It sounds good when an announcer says "UNDEFEATED!" It adds to the mystical idea that a fighter can truly not be beaten or has not been beaten because nobody can get it done. The truth of the matter is, everyone can be beaten. EVERYONE. Though if you don't face the right guy (or at the right time), you won't have that loss(es) exposed.

I love to see a guy take his first "L". It gets it out of the way and now I can truly see what he's made of. Does he come back better? Gives up and retires? So many guys fall apart and see themselves as vulnerable. They thought they had the goods, but realize they are as mortal as everyone else and took an L. Thus they may never be the same following it. Confidence breaker, reality check.

    Even Achilles took an L.

....sounds like you describing yourself overpedestalizing:....

Youre exactly right his work ethic was on another planet and reflects in how good of a fighter he was he gave his life to the sport as all great ones do, there is mental conditioning going on when youre hitting the pavement at 2am knowing you opponents is sleeping, I know Jeff Fenech personally and he was a beast in the gym and he had seen Floyd train

You got those Jeff Fenech pictures yet

Karen Chukhadzhian lost his second pro fight, yet went on to win 20 of his subsequent fights before the Ennis clash. Cobbs got 18 fights, 16 wins, one loss, one draw. Last fight was an action-packed victory. Yet he's already been written off and doesn't deserve Ennis whose best win is a blown up LW.

It's not a real sport; it's no different from street fighting with random guys duking it out. And the media just goes along with the current hype, never mentioning the padded records, the low quality of opposition, you name it. The eye test absolves all that. He doesn't have to fight real competition. Thus zero is avoided at all costs.

It's only horrible because these guys have no heart.

This current crop of boxers, very very very few of them have any heart for the sport. They are pretty front runners but if they get muddied up even once? 3 years in hibernation, no boxing, nothing, then come back with a weak mentality and never recover.

That's why I respect Jermell Charlo so much. He isn't undefeated. He dusted himself off and worked to become undisputed at 154 with every belt.

Same with Lomachenko. Dusted himself off and is making a strong cut through the 135 division.

Even Teofimo to a degree. He's at least moved up, given himself a challenge and is working at 140 even if he is still a slight c^nt

Someone has to win and someone has to lose. Since Mayweather a lot of fans can't accept that simple fact.

I personally don't care if my favorite fighter loses because I understand that anybody can lose. It's why I won't ever write anyone off completely like a good amount of people do.

The simple truth is that the fans that place so much weight on being undefeated and that make the comments that if you lost or got hurt or struggled against someone then you are overrated and were never good, these are the so called fans that prevent a lot of fights from happening. They instill this fear in fighters of potentially losing fans and future earnings. So they end up not taking competitive fights.

Floyd was so scared of somebody hitting him or losing, he only fought guys that had 30 perfect chance of beating him.

It's what this new crop of Floyd wannabees emulate you can see it.

If these guys just realize that it's no shame in losing nobly and rebuilding after the loss. I mean look at Canelo he took that early loss and is the face of the sport now.

It's nothing to do with the fans rather the promoters. When they lose they tend to be on the shelf

You play to win the ****ing game. Of course of losing and winning is everything. People only try and pull this **** when it's one of their favorite fighters getting their ass kicked. Of course Loma losing to journeymen hurts his legacy. Why wouldn't it? And of course Pacquiao getting knocked the **** out by Marquez and losing to mediocre fighters life Jeff Horn hurts his legacy. Why wouldn't it? And of course Mayweather being 50-0 while having faced the number of champions and elite fighters that he has elevates his legacy. Why wouldn't it?

Most fans are incapable of being honest (especially with their guy).
                      Take Pac Bois for instance
Pac had one of the worst runs I've ever seen for a headliner.
99% of his WW resume is trash.
His fans say ''8 div champ''.

Some fans hate it when their guy is put under that microscope.
If their guy has an 0, it would be legit
If the other guy has an 0, it's fake AF.
