  • Comments Thread For: Shakur Stevenson Brushes Off Failed Weight Attempt: "I'm Locked In Regardless"

There was a large contingent of boxing fans that were somewhat disappointed in Shakur Stevenson. Although the New Jersey native is still in the infancy stages of his career, he never appeared to have any trouble with making weight. However, in what would have been the first defense of his unified super featherweight throne, the former Olympic silver medalist failed to tip the scales at the 130-pound weight limit for his upcoming showdown against Robson Conceicao.

". . . this will be his final bout at 130-pounds."

    Nope. He didn't make weight!

    Unprofessional.

He's too big for this weight.

It seems like guys place great importance on getting titles, but not necessarily keeping the titles, especially if you have a weight issue.

A guy like Jaron Ennis is also very big for welterweight, he'll be comfy at middleweight.

Expect Shakur to be more of the bull and try to break down Robson.

Naw. Just think he really couldn’t make 130 anymore. Doesn’t come off as a Broner type.

Fact is Conceaico is better than Valdez. Shakur and his team value a win more than the 130 belts. He likely needs the extra weight to win.

He could at least accept responsibility for failing to make weight. It is not like it was a secret he was defending 130 pound titles. His opponent deserves more respect than the favorite in the fight coming in with a built in advantage.

Of course, it was just a joke. No one can equal Broner's stupidity.

However, Stevenson does have that kind of swagger which could lead him to some trouble in the future. Moreover, I haven't forgiven him for the parking lot beating, to be honest.

He decided to move up. Hurting himself to make weight at the last minute just to defend the titles and pay sanctioning fees for belts he doesn't need anymore doesn't make much sense.
