Every successful fighter has a bout where the judging was questionable. Alvarez has several. That’s like a big, dark blotch on his legacy. And it’s easy to tell by his angry outbursts that Alvarez is ashamed of that.

Worse, not every successful fighter has a drug bust on his resume which was caught by a surprise pee test his opponent demanded. Alvarez does, and there’s no scrubbing that off his legacy. And that explains Canelo’s seething resentment of GGG -- because Golovkin was the man who outed him.

In a way, it’s good to see Alvarez expressing concern about that legacy. It would be better by far if he came clean and started warning young fighters never to take PEDs, and never work with the mafia side of the boxing business. To borrow from Ronald Reagan, don’t work with the people who bring a duck to a ****fight and then make sure the duck wins. Once that goes on your record, it never washes off, no matter how good you become later on.

So, there won’t be any such “solidifying” of his legacy. All you have to do to know that is just keep reading the comment section on any boxing web site. Win, lose, or draw, Canelo will forever be the guy with an asterisk behind his name, and there’s nobody on Earth to blame for that but himself.

Since when does beating a 40 yr old who has barely been active for 4 yrs and has shown significant regression for yrs a way to solidify one’s resume? Canelo has a good legacy but it looks better on paper than the reality of what it is when you take certain things into account such as the age of the biggest ame opponents he’s faced and the quality of fighter of the younger boxers he’s faced. Not to mention scorecard favors he’s received.

Back in the days leaving an amazing resume was what it was - you were either elite or not. Nowadays we have the likes of convicted drug cheats (Saul "Canelo" Alvarez) trying to pull the wool over our eyes!
