Kambosos fought like an idiot. He threw power punches outside against an out-boxer. He has potential to make fan-friendly and close fight. I hope he makes us forget the boring first bout.

These rematch clause slave contracts have to stop in boxing.

First Joshua now Kambosos.

It's ok to include a rematch clause but it should be illegal to also include a forced purse.

Agreed, rematch clauses are horrible. There should be some time limits as a minimum (e.g. rematch has to happen within 3 months or belt is made vacant) with some conditions on purse distribution, location etc prior to first match by sanctioning bodies to prevent any need for renegotiation. Preferable is they simply aren't allowed.

Whole divisions and careers of fighters are destroyed by rematch clauses and all promoters and sanctioning bodies are colluding on it. I agree Joshua and Hearn have hurt the heavyweight division and so has Wilder / PBC as far as WBC is concerned. In many ways despite supporting Joshua I was glad he lost as a lesson of this one or two fight a year nonsense. This particular case of course is on Arum.

There are a few variables here and since I don't know all of the contractual details, don't really have a clue.

1) Someone will have to pony up the money that is stipulated in the rematch (either promotion, network or the government). Not sure how motivated they will be to do that after the nature of the first fight. If the financial backers balk, it could render that contract null and void.

2) What are the stipulations for the rematch regarding compensation?

3) Would Haney vacate to avoid the rematch (doubtful)? Could Kambosos be swayed to step aside (also doubtful)?

Probably the only one that really wants to run it back is Kambosos. Regardless, it will be interesting.

I don't mind rematch clauses if the fighters fight 3-4 times a year. If a fighter only fights twice a year, then the belts are held up for an entire year.

Does Haney has much of a choice? He doesn't have any leverage in this matter. If he does decide to vacate then there is no big name for him to fight at 140. However, If he does decide to fight and defeat Kambosos at 135 again; Then there are potential bouts with Loma, Stevenson. Davis and Garcia.

Pulling a similar trick as to what Andy Ruiz did before the second Joshua fight, I guess it all depends on what’s stipulated in the contract they both signed.

Yes, you would have thought purse splits etc would have all been taken care of in the contract? To not take care of I oirtant considerations like this leaves too much wriggle room for both sides and seems really shoddy legal work!

Kambosos purse is guaranteed to be paid largely by the Australian government, he is getting big money. Kambosos can not recoup this money in any other fight.

Haney contractual number is already set in stone.

How do you know the Australian Government is interested in paying for this fight again....especially since Kambobos was completely outclassed in a non compelling fight.

That's crazy that the Australian government is paying Kambosos that much. They must be really starved for stars, or they did the math and got a really good return on investment.
