I watched that first fight back and Maidana is going at it like some pub dweller after a few too many but Floyd just struggles all night to work him out.

Why did Floyd struggle so bad with Marcos "Bar brawler" Maidana tough-man contest style?

Because Floyd likes to move, you have to cut off the ring, and Maidana is excellent at shifting, something Golovkin does very well too. When you do this, you can quickly force the opponent up against the ropes. At this time, Floyd began to rely heavily on the shoulder roll defense, and the kryptonite for the shoulder roll is an overhand right, which is Maidana's forte. In fact, all of his punches are pretty much looping punches. So Maidana would force Floyd up on the ropes, and from there, he'd come over the top. He'd then attack the body after Floyd started defending the punches up top. Maidana also didn't give a crap where he hit Floyd. He'd hit him on the arms, the shoulders, the back, the top of the head. Everywhere. That made Floyd less willing to counter. Maidana also has an awkward rhythm, so he was hard to time.
He actually wasn't so much of a brawler at that point because Robert Garcia really taught him a lot. I think he was crude enough to be unpredictable but sophisticated enough to really give Floyd a lot to think about.

I remember saying Marcos had better feet than Manny and people killed me lol. I was saying that Marcos was better at cutting the ring end the shifting that you mentioned would help him better against Floyd than Manny's fast in and out footwork.

And it's totally true. Maidana is better than Manny at cutting off the ring. It's funny that people got on you for that. lolSweetPbfAli likes this.
