Why are people saying Bivol was a stylistic nightmare for Canelo?

Bivol is pretty basic. He kept hitting Canelo with the same combo over and over, but Canelo couldn't do **** to stop it. He really was the perfect opponent for a great counterpuncher. The problem is we just vastly overestimated Canelo's ability.

Canelo struggles with rangy fighters and since short armed Canelo can only fight at one range he was easy work for Bivol.

As I said before the fight, Bivol is very good at controlling distance and has quick feet. What I hadn't seen though was how tight his defense could be.

People crack me up with comments about how a fighter is "basic" when what they are seeing is a fundamentally sound fighter. Bivol is fundamentally sound, it's hard to find a weakness to key on.

I was more referring to his punch selection. Doesn't matter how tight your defense is, you throw the same basic combo against a veteran fighter like Canelo then you're begging to get knocked out. What I learned is Canelo is not in the same stratosphere as guys like Floyd or Ali or Marquez, some of the all time great counterpunchers.

                he blocked everything canelo threw

canelo tried several methods to no avail. he tried body shots, mostly blocked by bivols elbows, he tried hooking around his guard, mostly landed on his gloves still, he tried splitting the guard and uppercuts but those were still blocked.

all these same shots were landing on lesser skilled opponents.

Hes got 300 amateur fights, these guys are different. Usyk only got 19 pro fights, bivol only got 20 pro fights, Loma 16 fights. Plus some of those semi pro fights. These guys experience and skill are far above what a normal pro with only 20 fights performs at.

Canelo struggles with jabbers. GGG basically won using the jab, got robbed anyway. Floyd won the fight using his jab. If Reynoso was worth a shyt he would teach Canelo how to slip the jab and get inside of it, and/or counter it. Canelo himself doesn't use his jab enough to get inside and create openings. His jab and total punch output during the Lara fight was pathetic. Again, Lara out jabbed him and should have won. He also struggled with Trout who out-landed his jab on a 2-1 ratio and lost a very close fight that many feel he should have won.

                    - - Meanwhile, back at the Dubai Pass, TBE TUE 51-0 be fighting Dangerous Donny after having the Floriduh tarballs whooped out of him by Logan Paul. Kenny Bayless would never let that happen.
