  • What happened to Canelos counter punching skills?

Seems like he fell in love with his power. He use to have a jab, great head movement and counter punching ability.

He cannot counter punch in between his opponents combos, like Floyd was able to do and then roll out to safety.

He can counter punch single shot's well.

He does not have the skill and timing to counter punch in between a 4-6 punch combo. Floyd is able to, iirc correct he almost knocked Oscars head of with his counter right. He then caught Canelo with a very simillar counter.

what happened to his counter punching vs fmw and lara? based on compubox bivol fighting is more similar to those guys. a lot of body shots but an inability to hit the head. maybe it's the style of the fighter like not fighting andrade for undisputed at 160. just a thought. maybe reynoso was full of himself while watching the films and missed certain nuances about bivol

Canelo is a great counter puncher bivol just managed to keep him at perfect range and get in and out before canelos counters landed

Bivols footwork last night was incredible he made canelo miss huge counters with just his in and out footwork

Canelo can catch fighters like plant and bjs but once they go in for their own attack theyre mostly off balanced or over committed and get hit with canelos quick counters

Nothing wrong with canelo last night he just fought a great fighter

I honestly think bivol will take beterbiev to school in a similar way ,he's a special fighter .Great offence and defence and never off balance or over commiting

I was I.pressed with the way he totally shut down pascal and he did the exact same to a beter fighter in canelo

Pascal was similar in his counter punching ability to a lesser degree but he was always in any fight he's been in...he's good at catching shots and coming back with quick counter hooks to the body or head which made him always in a fight even if he was getting beaten up

But against bivol he had no success he was absolutely shut down in the department

Over confidence he went in with the wrong game plan. He thought he can just **** Bivol out.

Bivol was too fast for Canelo. he had faster feet and faster hands.

              Bivol fought a very tactical and skilled fight. When Canelo punched he covered up and when Canelo was not punching he opened up offensively;
By pinning Canelo along the ropes while landing hard jabs, left hooks and crosses on him. He simply refused to engage and trade punches with Alvarez by not punching with him and avoiding all exchanges with him.

Canelo had trouble with Bivol's combination punch, length, and in the back half of the fight Canelo's gas tank was empty. And you saw how disciplined Bivol was when Canelo went to the ropes trying to bait Bivol in, Bivol wasn't falling for any of it.

Bivol said something insightful at the post fight presser. He was forcing Canelo to be the aggressor while Bivol played the counter puncher himself, he would block Canelos shots then unload with his sharp and accurate combos when Canelo would reset. Bivol was fluidly transitioning from offense to defense while Canelo fought in a rigid rhythm. Seems like Bivol had Canelo studied down to a T.

Go watch Canelo vs Cotto. Floyd mostly went into a shell when being hit with combinations that's y he had trouble with volume punchers. I can tell ur a casual
