Excellent point about range, that was another deciding factor. Most of Bivol's shots when he opened up and fired back was keeping Canelo at the end of his punches. The shorter man in Canelo who is more flat footed could not also close the distance and Bivols footwork was brilliant. He did not take step wrong
What happened to Canelos counter punching skills?

It's the size. Size and weight classes matter. Canelo is small even for 168 and doesn't belong at 175. Things tactically that Bivol did fighters in lower weight classes can't get away with it against Canelo. Bivol was never hurt by any shots even when canelo landed clean shots guys at lower weights couldn't take. Only pain he mentioned was Canelo shots to his shoulder. Canelo won titles in 4 weight classes which is hard to do when you start at these higher weights and finally giving up all these physical advantages to men naturally much bigger caught up.
Bivol is not some alltime great skilled fighter and he's not p4p more skilled then canelo but he's much bigger and skilled enough to beat this version canelo that shouldn't be at 175. History is littered with examples of a good big man beating a great little man. Size and weight classes matterComment

Canelo being 5'8 winning his first world title at 154 moving up to 175 is like Bivol moving up to heavyweight and see how he fares against Tyson Fury. He will not look the same and can not fight the same way against heavyweights tactically when you are giving up so many physical advantages to guys bigger, taller, longer, hit harder and can take bigger punches.Comment

Reynoso has been debunked over the last fortnight.what happened to his counter punching vs fmw and lara? based on compubox bivol fighting is more similar to those guys. a lot of body shots but an inability to hit the head. maybe it's the style of the fighter like not fighting andrade for undisputed at 160. just a thought. maybe reynoso was full of himself while watching the films and missed certain nuances about bivol
He is the mexican Buddy McgirtComment

As successful as he was with these tactics. It showed Bivols limitations. He was far to passive. And should have put it on Canelo.Bivol said something insightful at the post fight presser. He was forcing Canelo to be the aggressor while Bivol played the counter puncher himself, he would block Canelos shots then unload with his sharp and accurate combos when Canelo would reset. Bivol was fluidly transitioning from offense to defense while Canelo fought in a rigid rhythm. Seems like Bivol had Canelo studied down to a T.
He let the ginger of the hook every time he hurt him.Comment

Alvarez has always been a middle weight, playing the big man at welterweight.Canelo being 5'8 winning his first world title at 154 moving up to 175 is like Bivol moving up to heavyweight and see how he fares against Tyson Fury. He will not look the same and can not fight the same way against heavyweights tactically when you are giving up so many physical advantages to guys bigger, taller, longer, hit harder and can take bigger punches.
His ideal weight class is 160 - 168 pounds.
It is nothing like Bivol moving up to heavyweight. Fighters are separated by stones, not pounds in that division.
Alvarez at light heavyweight in my opinion, is not really fighting fighters who are out size him by miles. Alvarez has a different body type to Bivol, Alvarez is dense and sturdy etc.
