Hearn revealed last week to Sky Sports News that he thought Ortiz ultimately might turn down this suddenly available chance to face Joshua because Haymon has promised him a rematch with Wilder.

Luis Ortiz’s handlers apparently want at the absolute least what DAZN and Eddie Hearn were willing to pay Jarrell Miller for Ortiz to challenge Anthony Joshua on June 1. And probably then some. Multiple sources have informed BoxingScene.com that Ortiz’s representatives turned down Hearn’s $5 million offer for Ortiz to step in on what’s now five weeks’ notice for Miller. They asked for $10 million, $3.5 million more than what would’ve been Miller’s package for the fight had the boisterous Brooklyn contender not tested positive for multiple performance-enhancing drugs late in March.Comment

I was very interested in a Ruiz-Ortiz match. Another crossroads fight where one stays relevant and another has to face the reality of being reduced in stature. A lot at stake for both men, a fight that is a decently easy sell.
I am interested in Ruiz-Sprong, but you cannot sell that to me as a pay-per-view at any price. It is a co-main event on free TV at best.
I have zero idea what Ortiz has open to him now. All Ortiz wants at this point is decent money fights. For all everyone is slamming him for passing on Hrgovic, I totally get it. He is at an age he needs current compensation, not an eliminator that may provide a payday 18 months to 2 years out after all the mandatories and rematches ahead of him are settled. Hughie Fury? Hunter? Helenius? How many of those are even available? How many of those are even viable options for a decent money fight? He needs to stay busy, long lay-offs are just as bad for aging fighters as too many fights are. But like Ruiz, there are fewer and fewer interesting fights left with boxers willing to risk it.
The irony of Ortiz passing on Hrgovic for the same reason most have passed on Ortiz is not lost on me.Comment

pbc paid him more money most likely to take that dive, (which he effin 100% did).

Ortiz still carries more name than Sponge Bob. Ruiz is lazy just like Arum said he was, got those GIFT "pick me" paydays from AJ. Now, you can't get him to take a half a$$ fight.Ortiz is a lose-lose situation.
He's popped for PEDs before and is always a risk of doing it again.
If you fight him and beat him, nobody will give you credit because he's fat and old.
If you fight him and lose, again, you just lost to a fat old man.
He doesn't speak English, he's Cuban and not Mexican or Puerto Rican so he can't tap into a preexisting nationwide fanbase, he's low reward, and on top of that he's a tricky southpaw with great technical skill and one punch KO power.
Take short money to fight a fat old man that might pop for PEDs, might knock your head into the fifth row, might outbox you and make you look like a clown, and won't do much for your career even if you beat him? Not hard to see why he can't get fights.Comment

Don't really know what DAZN is doing with their fighters. Doesn't this fall on their responsibility? They signed him, they promised him the moon and the stars. Fed him with a long line of bums. Team ANDRADE was in heaven, they liked it. But then DAZN ran out of bums to feed. What now? DAZN have basically abandoned him. Nobody knows what's next for the aging guy.
