Warren hasn’t made one for about 20 years.

Top Rank haven’t really made a major star since Manny, but even he held titles at lower weights before they were involved. You could say they helped Fury too but I think his self promotion and fights have been a bigger reason than any promoter he’s dad.

To be honest, I think times have changed and boxers really need to know how to sell themselves, using social media to do it etc. i think that’s what it takes now, a lot of the responsibility is with the fighter and most really don’t know how to.

I think the days are pretty much gone where a promoter can just turn a fighter into a megastar. There’s many more factors now.
truth..but of course they only focus on PBC

The numbers prove otherwise. Fury-Wilder 2 done 850k buys and a record breaking gate that proves beyond any doubt Wilder is a modern star.

Spence has consistently done around 250-350k buys which is also good compared to his peers and even Tank has broke 200k vs LSC.

I’m not saying they’re mega stars like a Mayweather, De La Hoya, Tyson etc but nobody is nowadays. Canelo is the only guy in the same conversation.

By modern standards, these guys are some of the bigger stars in the sport no doubt.

We all know the pbc model....steal fighters, give 1 or 2 fights a year, charge up the @ss for bs ppvs and make none of the stable true stars. The pbc d!ckriders will say diff but theyre just as bad as Ginger ball suckers and the rest of the weird fanboys in this forum.

          Here’s what it is.

BOXERS DONT ACT LIKE FIGHTERS! Mike Tyson gave Charlo some real knowledge on how to market himself and get the fighters he wants. this is a gladiators sport…act like it. The younger generation doesn’t care for boxing anymore…it’s too boring to them. So a boxer needs to build his fan base OUTSIDE of boxing. Example…Mayweather was hanging with popular rappers…dating celebrities….and being a household name because of his flashy persona talking about money. AND he had the skill to back it up. You don’t really see boxers align themselves with something that makes them want to be seen outside of boxing. They don’t even know how to be sex symbols like Oscar De La Hoya was. Ryan Garcia and Tank are really the only people who market themselves strongly outside of boxing. It also doesn’t help that these guys don’t fight the top guys. It turns people off and they just stay at the same level instead of growing

You're absolutely delusional if your giving wilder all the credit for the success of the fight. Also I want a source on the record breaking gate your talking claiming.

Spencer's as well as stanks ppv numbers have been getting lower to the point they dont even release the real numbers. Don't know why you're insisting that they're stars.

              Who can?

Theres 3 legit massive stars in boxing and thats Canelo, AJ and Fury. After that theres the semi-big names like Wilder, GGG, Loma, Spence, Crawford, Tank, Usyk etc. I dont think theres really an obvious pattern there promotion wise, it seems fairly random.

There are not many mega stars in boxing other than canelo. 2nd is probably AJ. Notice these trends...these guys have a whole country behind them with passionate fans that will support them unlike america. Maybe this is the thing that american boxers/promoters should solve together and figure out. This is not a PBC/AL haymon thing.

No superstar has emerged in America since HBO left the game. Period.

                    Been saying this

HBO gave a legitimacy that all these B grade shows can't.

HBO was like the WWF in the 90s, Showtime, espn etc are like WCW

The 24/7 series pulled boxing up into the mainstream in a huge way at a time when boxing was already on the decline. The influence of not just Pacquiao/Mayweather, but getting everyday people to see the names and faces of Marquez, Hatton, Bradley, etc can't be understated.

My grandfather grew up in the 1920s and my dad the 1960s, and both of them were extremely anti-boxing. It was a generational thing due to mob affiliation - they were from up north and just wanted nothing to do with it.

But my Dad caught a few episodes of Pacquiao/Hatton 24/7 and ho pulled in - asked if he could come watch the fight. He watched a handful of other fights with us after that.

That was the power of HBO.
