McKinson could surprise those who think this is a mismatch, he might not have the power to trouble Ortiz, but he’s pretty slick and elusive. Reminds me of Billy Joe Saunders in style - will try not to get drawn into a brawl.

I expect Ortiz to hunt him down eventually, but McKinson is savvy enough to cause a few issues.

Power isn't everything but not often a guy with less than 10% KO ratio beats a guy with 100% KO ratio. I remember Freitas vs Jones was 100% KO ratio vs 0% KO ratio and the puncher dominated.

I think Ortiz is ready for better fights than this and has been for a while. GBP are often bad at matchmaking for their prospects, Ortiz likely walks through this guy and learns nothing but bad habits.

He just fought Hooker and Kava and intends to fight 3 times this year.

Eddy fodder, but I'm not mad at Eddy. Ortiz needs seasoning. I hope they're not going the little ring, easy kill route. Get Ortiz some experience shutting off the exits.

I looked up Michael McKinson's record, and he has beaten 4 undefeated fighters with a few more wins against fighters with winning records.
The thing that sticks out is that McKinson doesn't have any recognizable fighters names on his record, and he doesn't possess power with only 2 KO wins.
Now he does have 21 wins without a loss, and as I said does have about 8 wins against fighters with winning records.
If he has a decent chin, and has some exceptional boxing abilities which would account for those wins, then he might be able to contend with Ortiz.
If he doesn't Vergil Ortiz with walk through him as if he wasn't even there, and I think that this'll be the likely scenario of the two.
Another thing I'd like to point out is why is this fight taking place in California where no one's ever heard of McKinson, instead of England where he's from, and would've sold better.

I like your analytics, but what would be the big draw in the UK? Let's watch Mick get KOd? Ortiz is the attraction here or there and Eddy can't afford there.

McKinson's a good fighter (reminds me of Anselmo Moreno sometimes), probably topping out at Euro level, and I'd make him a slight favourite over Benn at this point - but he's never been able to negotiate from any position of strength for fights against Benn or Kelly (and probably never will), because he's not a puncher and he's come up via the small-hall route. Unfortunately for McKinson though, Ortiz is a genuinely bluechip prospect - if Ennis wasn't in the division I'd pick him to rule the roost in two years - so I can't see past Ortiz imposing his gifts for the KO unless McKinson has a truly wonderful chin.

I'm not calling the guy a bum or anything like that. But he's facing an opponent who won't be able to punish him if he makes a mistake. That's counter-productive for preparing for Crawford, who punishes even a tiny mistake. Everybody says they want to fight 3 times per year so I don't know if that changes anything. Jmo but feel he should be facing a tough test next and then Crawford afterwards. He beatdown Kava, who is top 10 or close to it, so I don't know that he needs 2 or more development fights after that before going at the best.
