I'm not calling the guy a bum or anything like that. But he's facing an opponent who won't be able to punish him if he makes a mistake. That's counter-productive for preparing for Crawford, who punishes even a tiny mistake. Everybody says they want to fight 3 times per year so I don't know if that changes anything. Jmo but feel he should be facing a tough test next and then Crawford afterwards. He beatdown Kava, who is top 10 or close to it, so I don't know that he needs 2 or more development fights after that before going at the best.

I mostly agree with your assessment on where he is right now - I'm thinking the 2-3 fights are to become acclimated with his new trainer Manny Robles

At first I thought why this guy next ? Then figured he needs to develop and nothing pays off like learning in the ring so if it is a dancer a mover some kind of swifty then I get it. Kid Jr. is still young and in need of experience and has fought some solid challenges so why not. Really a risk in a way if he gets to looking bad in there even with a win. Not that I see that happening but still many fighters with a great following have taken fights and opponent(s) that are way below there level and got no noise from it. If it continues then there is a problem.

Power isn't everything but not often a guy with less than 10% KO ratio beats a guy with 100% KO ratio. I remember Freitas vs Jones was 100% KO ratio vs 0% KO ratio and the puncher dominated.

I think Ortiz is ready for better fights than this and has been for a while. GBP are often bad at matchmaking for their prospects, Ortiz likely walks through this guy and learns nothing but bad habits.

GB with Roberto Diaz are/is the best in the game as far as match making. The looks Ortiz has been given since Herrera have all been different and are great styles that he will have learned and adapted from. Herrera,Orozco,Hooker,Mean Machine and now a solid/slick boxer in McKinson all with different styles and sizes. His matchmaking has been far more beneficial that Boots.

With Porter retired and PBC not willing to offer up say someone like Thurman or Garcia there isn't much left for Ortiz at welter other than Crawford.

I actually think McKinson is quite a stiff test for Ortiz. McKinson knows he can't KO Vergil & won't try. There is no danger of McKinson catching Vergil with a counter & then throwing punches to the head & caution to the wind. He will be strictly defence from R1 to (if things go according to plan) R10. Its up to Ortiz to close the ring down & force him into exchanges. I'm really looking forward to this one.

I'm pleased for McKinson that he's got this huge fight but it is sad that probably the UK's top 147 fighter is being ignored while Conor Benn & McKinson get the glamour fights. If they both dared fight Ekow Essumann it would be Ekow & his bunnymen!

This was predictable. They have no one to offer him on DAZN so he has to settle for a Euro that's not anywhere near his level. All his fights that he needs to become great are on PBC. He is going to regress fighting against inferior talent. In America blacks and Mexicans need each other to progress. Blacks need to face the pressure style and Mexicans need to face boxers. And forgive me for calling Virgil Mexican because I know he is American as apple pie, but you know what I mean.

Terrible fight ..as bad as Andrade and schmanelos next opponents, smh. Ortiz is not an elite pugilist, a better version of 'Tony Plasterrito..stamina and output plodders..he will get outboxed 10/10 times by an athletic boxer..but he is fun to watch and there are better opponents with better styles that I rather see Ortiz against..this is a terrible fight.

Hes also not a champion,so its not like everyone wants to fight him,& he blasted out green machine last fight too,hes just waiting on his mando shot now,only way anyone will fight him.

He is mando for Bud. But theres no way Bud fights him before Spence,& even at pbc options would be limited.

No not a bum, he'll have a similar career as Margs..He can easily beat this guy,is what I am saying, he has not power. Easy fight for him..

I want to see how Ortiz looks in his 1st fight back without the Garcia family. If he looks anything like he's looked up to this point, McKinson is going to get hurt badly. I saw his videos, and he's not on the same level. All that cute sh.t he tries and gets away with, won't work at all. He will not be able to outbox ortiz or avoid his punches. Keep a stretcher, a first aid kit, and an oxygen mask close by. This could get ugly real fast.
