"Haney’s upgrade came as a result of unified and now former WBC titlist Vasiliy Lomachenko (14-1, 10KOs) being named as the sanctioning body’s “Franchise” champion.

The move came at the request of Top Rank, Inc., whom promotes Lomachenko and is grooming the three-division titlist and pound for pound entrant for what was previously pitched as an undisputed lightweight championship showdown with the winner of the Dec. 14 clash between IBF titlist Richard Commey and unbeaten mandatory challenger Teofimo Lopez."

"Haney was initially the mandatory challenger to world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko, who was elevated to the status of "franchise champion" - which allowed him to sidestep any obligation to fight Haney."

    All these articles came after the fact. This is ad hoc logic because nothing was being said about this previously. In fact, this is what was being said previously;
After the fight, Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KOs) said that he'd like to face the winner of the December fight between IBF champion Richard Commey and Teofimo Lopez for the right to be undisputed king of the division, but that it's up to his promoter, Bob Arum of Top Rank, to make it happen. Considering Commey and Lopez are also Top Rank boxers, it shouldn't be difficult to pull off, although Devin Haney facing Zaur Abdullaev on Sept. 13 in a WBC final title eliminator might have something to say about that. ARTICLE

Before Haney was a champion of any sort, Loma had planned on fight the winner of Commey and Lopez. Loma was going to fight Commey a long time ago but those plans fell through because Richard suffered an injury.

Unfications trump mandatories, regardless. So there really is no argument to be had about Loma ducking Devin. It's ludicrous and everyone knows it. Time to move on.

I watched Arum saying this, directly looking at Hearn and Haney: "Loma is not gonna fight you. We'll ask for franchise." Arum's smirk and arrogance told me that he really looks down on both Hearn and Haney. Loma wasn't even present.

I honestly don't think Loma had any idea about this crap. Fair is fair. Loma didn't duck Haney. He will fight anyone. He's not with the BS boxing politics, either. At the time, I was Loma's biggest critic. Again, fair is fair. In my opinion, people should let this crap go.

This is the same as the people thinking Davis is afraid of Loma. It's a joke.

Lomachenko would have been allowed to unify with the winner of Commey vs Lopez. But afterwards there would be an obligation looming to fight Devin Haney.

That's why they dropped the belt, to make that obligation go away. What don't you understand about that? It's not that hard to follow.

Mauricio Sulaiman says Lomachenko and Top Rank requested Franchise Champion status and signed the document at their convention in Cancun.

Annnnd Haney turned down 5 million to fight Loma. Dude... Loma's not running from Haney. You guys need to move on with your life. We'll see if Hany will agree to fight Loma after Loma beats Kambsosos. That's flat out who Loma will fight afterwards.

Him being controlled and told what do to and who NOT to fight is the issue though.

From what I've heard from a guy who's close to certain people in the industry, he says what I've thought for awhile, which is that Matchroom doesn't have the money that it used to. Hearn can't throw around the big bucks like he had before. And I think this is true considering Haney fought JoJo for $1 million. He fought Linares for three and JoJo for one. That says a lot.

And there's something about Kambosos and the way he talks about his next opponent that makes me think it'll be Loma. In an interview today, he said that "Haney can't crack and egg," and the guy he spoke to said that he believes Haney is tailor made. The interviewer also said that he believes Haney will be next, though George didn't confirm it or agree.

thing about dazn is, it's owned by leonard blavatnik and he has made a TON of money in the past couple of covid years.
He was worth $20m in 2020, now he's worth $38b+.

Dazn base their business on data through stats-perform and thus they are more aware of the value of fighters/fights now then they were at the start. Furthermore, they will have a good idea about the economic position of boxing fans right now and may decide to hold their money back until that improves. An example of this is that British boxing was dead and in a dark age in 2008-10. There was no money in the sport and sky sports backed out of boxing. it took 5 years for it to really pick up.
5 years is not a long time at all. 2017 was not that long ago.

I'm not supporting or hating on dazn either with way in this point, im just saying it is a silly argument to think 'dazn no longer have the money' when the owner has almost doubled his money.

Roman abramovic, the chelsea fc owner, has spent £2b on chelsea since 2003. He's worth $13b..and that 2b he's spent on chelsea was for fun. chelsea is his hobby, his vanity affair, his art project.

As for Haney. Haney was under contract with dazn/matchroom before. Now he isn't. He is a free agent now who chose to fight with dazn/matchroom for the jojo diaz fight. if they're paying him less it's because they're paying him accurately now based on his data.
