We get it. It’s going to be a very long time that a Mexican fighter will have a better win than Marquez’s KO win over Pac but Beristáin needs to STFU already and save his opinion until after Canelo calls it a day.

It's ridiculous for Nacho to complain about his fights not being more exciting when most the Mexican greats fought in the lower divisions where fighters tend to have higher workrates so stylistically you can't make the comparison and Canelo's opponents are typically uncharacteristically tentative against him including guys with power who've never been reluctant to trade. His defense combined with accurate power makes opponents reluctant to sit on their punches because they'll usually come up swinging and eat a hard counter for their trouble. But even if they manage to land something good, he happens to have an iron chin and is liable to shoot back with something harder of their own. Opponents tend to opt to tread water throwing arm punches while he lands the harder and cleaner shots.

There was more room for criticism when he was younger and more stationary which allowed opponents more room to tread water, but from the GGG fight onward he's consistently pressing and looking to set up traps and exploit openings and he's methodically breaking guys down or putting them in survival mode. Simply put, Nacho was a hater early on and is reluctant to give it up, although even he disagreed with Marquez at the end saying he could still change his mind in the Mexican GOAT conversation. The irony is that people used to complain about Marquez and not give him his due because he was more of a counterpuncher earlier in his career.

It's been nearly 11 years since Canelo won his first title and he's at the top of his game and at the pinnacle of the sport, you don't have the kind of longevity or development by not making use of all your tools.

Morrell might be the goods but he is unproven. I haven't seen either Benavides or Charlo do anything spectacular, intriguing fights yes but Canelo would be the favorite. The only real challenge is Berteviev because of his size and power.

I agree with Nacho but maybe with less animosity towards him that it may sound like?

Canelo needs that war/battle fight that the Mexican people love. Something that he has to fight through crazy adversity and show he can come out on top. I think the GGG fight was supposed to promise us that but instead, left a lot of people feeling cold as Nacho put it. No knockdowns, no crazy head snapping punches landing consistently. You have a first fight where some people think GGG even won to make it worse. This was supposed to be the best it got for a fight that everyone wanted out of Canelo... Everything else he's done has been, meh IMO. He looks great winning but, meh. His opponents haven't brought like any excitement with the exception of the GGG fight.

I hope there is time left for Canelo to get himself into a war but I don't think he needs to at this point in his career. He's the top money maker so why risk his health to go up against someone who has a chance to take his head off or put him through hell? At this point, it's going to be all flashy and for the books type of fights and less on becoming something the people will remember or fall in love with to rewatch over and over in the future.

Canelo would be criticized AFTER whipping Charlo and Benavides. Charlo has beaten NO ELITE boxers. Neither has Benividas. That would be emphasized after.
It’s damn obvious but the casual fans don’t know boxing.

Nacho's views are a little hard. I agree Canelo's fights haven't been exciting as other Mex warrior's fights but a part of that is due to matchmaking which is what he is alluding to but another part is due to Canelo's style which is all about hit and not get hit.
Kovalev was a good opponent if he had meant to stay at 175 but winning that fight and then leaving the division looked and still looks suspect. Bivol and Beterbiev have been there a long time so if he jumps over them to fight 'a lesser' CW then that will look dodgy. Canelo is a great but the su****ion will always be that the matchmaking was as good as the fighter - and Mexican boxing fans get this. Too many fighters on his resume that underwhelm
              Kirkland
Khan (140 pounder with china chin)
BJS - best win was Lemieux or young Eubank Jr. and nothing at 168)
              ancient Cotto
the 1st guy he fought at 168
              and so it goes on

but jury is still out - Canelo CAN become best Mexican ever - in as quick as 3 fights - Benavidez, Bivol and Beterbiev. Beterbiev first as he is already 37.

That may very well be true but at least he is still telling the truth though. Nacho is right. Canelo hasn't done shit since barely eking out a very close decision win over Gennady Golovkin in 2018 and that's a fact. He's been cherry picking his way to the top of the P4P list.

He has no Salvador Sanchez vs Wilfredo Gomez or Chavez Vs Meldrick Taylor or Marquez vs Pacquiao level fight anywhere on his resume. And when he did step up to a real one, he was schooled. he is a great fighter, like Nacho said, but not based on his carefully matched resume. He is not a fight anyone at anytime kind of fighter like a James Toney. Not by far

How ******. He didn't even see the fight and he's quoting anonymous Tijuana cab drivers who say Plant took a dive? What a joke. Also, Canelo had his "endearing" fight in the 2nd GGG fight when he best Mr. Mexican Style at his own game. And I was rooting for GGG full on. And I think the Mexican people had a lot of pride in his Cotto victory. Not his fault he's not a walking punching bag and has a great defense.
