He's right. Canelo refuses to risk losing against Mexican fighters, I think he doesn't want to risk losing his "hero" status...he fought Angulo and Chavez Jr, both limited fighters. Benavidez and Ramirez are there but he says he won't fight "fellow Mexicans"...those would be huge fights.

But the other great Mexican champions risked it against everyone, including fellow Mexicans:

Chavez - Ruben Castillo, Bazooka Limon, Jose Luis Castillo, De la Hoya, Miguel Angel Gonzalez

Sanchez - Castillo, Little Red Lopez

Marquez - Juan Diaz, Barrera, Salido

Barrera & Morales - each other

Whenever Nacho says things like this I wish they would ask him who Canelo has to fight to earn his respect?

      Let's hear some names.

Canelo is certainly more popular here in the U.S. but crazy as it sounds he’s disliked by many in Mexico.

Believe it or not Marquez is the more beloved fighter in Mexico outside of Guadalajara (Canelos hometown). I went to Cancun, Mexico the day after Canelo-Plant thinking that the people would all be talking about it & still high off their countryman’s win. Everyone I talked to had the same “meh-whatever” type response. I talked to a guy at length about boxing in general & he told me Marquez, Chavez & are the 2 guys Mexicans adore most. I asked about guys like Virgil Ortiz, Mikey Garcia, Oscar Valdez, Leo Santa Cruz & got the same meh response. He knew about all of them but said that they don’t get the same love in Mexico that they probably get in the US. Reason being that none of them are “of the people”. ( best way I can make it make sense in English)

My brothers wife is actually from Mexico, still has family there. She’s always told us that a lot of people don’t care for Canelo because he “changed” when he got super rich & supposedly has family that he doesn’t take care of. Not saying this is 100% the truth or feelings of everyone in Mexico because obviously it’s not, but it’s not unbelievable that there are people there who don’t care for him as much.

My family originates from Caguas, Puerto Rico same hometown as Miguel Cotto. & I can say with 100% confidence that he is not well liked there. Go ask anyone there about Cotto & they’ll tell you he’s a d!!ck in real life & thinks he’s better than everyone. I always been a fan of him & I never met him so I don’t have those feelings but ask anyone there who has and I guarantee they won’t tell you nice things lol

The shady judges scores in a lot of his marquee fights has always added a dark cloud over him. Just look at all his fights vs trout, cotto, ggg, mayweather, & lara..theres always one insurance judge. It would've been better if he would've gotten that official L vs GGG in the first fight Because he looked better in the rematch (even though i still had ggg winning it)

People like to see you go through adversity in fights…can anyone say we’ve seen that with him? No. Also doesn’t help some of the choice opponents he’s had in almost what 70 fights. He’s a legend for sure but folks hoist him up far above what they would for a fighter with his record and the names on it and the condition most of those names. Mosley, cotto, etc don’t count for shhh to me. Ggg, Floyd, and smith are about the only fights I honestly see as standout on his resume PLUS he ain’t ever clean out a division, swam at his own weight for god knows how long and didn’t fight any of the up and comers in either division around him. This isn’t hate it’s gods honest critique. The same way Chavez got for fighting a bunch of no hopers, despite having sprinkles on legends in his resume. Khan, Kirkland, this cruiserweight, kovalev, etc…I mean come on. Yeah good for him he’s jumping weight for you people who love marketing but there are lot of better fighters between 168 and cruiserweight he ain’t and won’t ever really look at. Bicol been offering him the smoke for two years and that’s one of many who are willing to fight who are actually competitive fights that aren’t give me fights.

Going forward he needs to avoid cherry picking the weakest link to a title in each division. Clean out 175 against Beterbiev, Bivol, Smith. If you're making a serious run at cruiser, accept Usyk's challenge to come back down to CW. If you're still competing at 168, get in with Benevidez. I won't fault Canelo for not fighting Charlo, I believe he was given a generous offer to fight Canelo and he turned it down. If Charlo thinks he is worth more than $12M or even $10M he is outside of his mind. Canelo should have taken the third fight with a still game GGG to put that to rest. A trilogy now would be meaningless as GGG is going to be 40.

I love Nacho and think he was one of the greatest trainers but he sounds a little jealous of Canelo and his team.
So you dismissing the two fighters with better skills than the ones he has fought, at 168? I'm going to mention another one, giving him a year, David Morrell jr.

Nacho is a jealous little ***** just like his student Marquez

They only open their mouths to bad mouth Canelo, who lives rent free in their heads

Ginger has already achieved more than Marquez ever did, and that's what irks them
