Yeah, it does. No one can seem to understand or figure out the hold that the PBC has over Ortiz' handlers.

Maybe it's not just Ortiz's handlers. Maybe Ortiz himself doesn't want a high risk fight against a young lion like Hrgovic. It's not unreasonable to expect a 43 year old contender to pick his last remaining opponents carefully. Hell, younger fighters do it all the time in the middle of their careers.

Glad the injury was mentioned and he pulled out. For a fighter to enter the ring with a preexisting injury is an excuse for losing waiting to happen.

Its not just Ortiz, almost everyone so far has declined the fight. This says more about Hrgovic and the IBF.

• Firstly, Hrgovic is not a crowd puller or a marketable guy. So, fighting Hrgovic particularly if you are "lower-ranked" than him does not make for a sound proposition. That fight does not generate a lot of money (or any) and you get a fraction of that. Nobody's interested.
• Secondly, IBF itself is not a renowned title that people are running after, and nor is their mandatory imminent. If it comes to it, IBF may be the first belt an AJ/Usyk/Fury would like to give up to go for undisputed or more lucrative fights. Hence, even if a boxer decides to sacrifice the next fight for a better future, it doesn't look very promising.

So, it is understandable why boxers are looking for more financially rewarding fights and positioning themselves in the rankings of other bodies.

It doesn't work like that. When Joshua had Povetkin as his WBA mandatory, he was also the WBO mandatory at the same time. It goes on rotation. It was the WBAs turn. So once Povetkin lost the WBO had to find a new mandatory and that was Usyk, for the time when their turn in the rotation would come. You can't clear off 2 at the same time.

So am I right in saying that Roman is currently mandatory for both organizations? If that is the case, then one will be called, and after that the other will sort out a new mandatory. Both mandatories won't be cleared. I thought you were giving me an example of something in the past. I stand by my statement of both mandatories won't be cleared in one fight. That said, these orgs change their rules to suit whoever puts money in their account.

That's pretty much along the lines of what I was saying; Hrgovic is high-risk, low-reward. The biggest money lies in a title fight vs Usyk for the IBO, WBA, and WBO or Fury's WBC belt, but can he get those fights if he isn't the mandatory challenger? Are any lesser fights worth the risk? He'll have to fight other top contenders, but the same argument can be made that there just isn't enough money to satisfy all parties.
