Sorry, you are right. He was facing suspension by UKAD, and with his status still up in the air during the convention, Fury was approved as February 2020 mandatory and Whyte February 2021 mandatory if UKAD ended up clearing him, which they did the next month.

The public was complaining that there were too many interim world title fights, but promoters/managers/networks in smaller countries that struggle to attract proper world title fights were putting a lot of pressure on the sanctioning bodies to approve lots of interim world title fights. As we saw, the WBA in particular gave in to this pressure and started crowning interim world champions in every division, which was ridiculous.

So the WBC decided they would largely eliminate interim world titles, except for the most extreme circumstances, and instead introduce silver world titles. The silver world title as it implies is the equivalent of a silver medal in the Olympics. Under the WBC rules and regulations, the silver (second place) world title ranks above the WBC international title, but below the actual world title.

Winning the silver title entitles you to a very high rating in the WBC, but doesn't make you the mandatory. You still have to win a final eliminator to become the mandatory.

The problem I have is that Hearn blatantly lied to the fans throughout the entire process and led a public campaign to turn the fans against the WBC in hopes the WBC would be pressured into giving Whyte special treatment to calm down the raging mob. When Whyte beat Helenius in a semi-final eliminator, Hearn lied and said it was a final eliminator and said Whyte was now mandatory even though he wasn't. Then he had Whyte refused over and over to fight the leading available contender in a final eliminator. He signed Whyte vs #10 Rivas and then bullied the WBC with legal threats into having the fight declared a final eliminator, which allowed Whyte to avoid #2-9, some of whom were ready, willing and able to face Whyte in a final eliminator. I don't like that Whyte was able to duck several final eliminators and then just pick his own opponent like that.

You then drift into the PED story. Whyte was cleared to fight (and passed other organisations' testing), was never so much as suspended and ultimately was exonerated in an unprecedented statement from UKAD issued due to the leaking of confidential information. The WBC ultimately issued a very similar statement exonerating Whyte completely.
Which is all fine, but it does explain some of the delay. My position isn't that Whyte shouldn't have been cleared. My position is that the WBC wasn't being unfair by waiting for UKAD's investigation to conclude before declaring Whyte the mandatory.

He lost against Povetkin. Then he beat him. I won't counter your opinions around those fights. But they're just opinions. Fighters do lose fights from time to time.
Which is fine, but it does explain some of the delay. My position isn't that Whyte shouldn't get a mandatory shot now that he's interim champion again. My position is that the WBC wasn't being unfair by not immediately ordering his title shot when he regained the interim title.

if the split was presented and agreed at the convention... why was the fight not ordered because Whyte was already in arbitration with the WBC over the split?
The WBC agreed with Top Rank that 80/20 was appropriate, but because Whyte objected, there was a process the WBC had to go through to consider his appeal.

You don't need to explain the Silver belt. It's silly named trinket. It's a joke. The WBC is a joke. Don't take any offense, it's not personal, all the other sanctioning bodies are a joke too.

I know that you have close ties to the sanctioning body...I enjoy your posts and insight but I don't respect the sanctioning bodies.

That's what I was thinking this whole time. Imagine being so, imo narrow minded, that you are willing to pass up 20% of the pot, for a shot at the title.

Maybe he thinks he has a better chance if can swerve this or that way. But with my limited knowledge of his personal detailed plans or hopes, I think it's a bad chess move to pass up this jump. I think his stock now is as high as it's ever going to be, and he ought to grab for it.

A friend shared this object lesson with me once. A guy is climbing a mountain. He slips and falls, and his rope catches him. The top of the cliff, where his rope is hanging over, juts out. So in that moment, the guy falls, his rope catches him, and he swings away from the cliff face. He knows that as he swings forward, that will be his last best chance to grab for the cliff face, because after that, the pendulum action will decrease. In other words, when he swings forward and then back again, the next time forward, he won't be as close to the cliff as he was the time before.

Anyway, Whyte just fell, and he's swinging toward the cliff face. I think if he doesn't reach for it, that's his last best shot. But it's just my opinion

i don't like the silver title. i don't believe second place should get a belt. but i had no influence with the WBC when it was created and at least it's better than having a bunch of interim champions.

As Don King said to David Letterman many decades ago, nobody has come up with a better alternative. You have a worldwide sport made up of rival promoters. Someone has to administer the sport and act as a go between for the rival promoters who would get nothing done if they didn't have a mutually agreed upon body to settle disputes and make rulings.

Of the four bodies, the WBC is by far the most credible, most respected and least corrupt. It's not even close.

#2 - Whyte begins turning down a series of final eliminators because Hearn doesn't want to risk losing a purse bid and not being able to control the ref and judges for one of Whyte's fights.

#3 - Whyte uses threats of lawsuits to become interim champion in a fight where he was using performance enhancing drugs and unapproved gloves. Hearn begins lying to the public and claiming the interim title entitles you to 45% (it doesn't) and Whyte was entitled to the next title shot (he wasn't).

#4 - Whyte is knocked out cold by an over the hill Povetkin.

#5 - Whyte knocks out an even more over the hill Povetkin who had his lungs ravaged by covid and could barely stand. Whyte files a $400,000 purse with the WBC for this fight.

#6 - Hearn doesn't bother to go to the WBC convention and doesn't send a representative either. The WBC convention is where all the promoters meet to lobby for mandatory shots, purse bid splits, etc.

#7 - With nobody in attendance to argue for Matchroom's position, Top Rank's representative successfully argues that the 70/30 split should be changed to 80/20 due to Fury making 15x more than Whyte in their last fights.

And now finally, on January 11 we will have the moment of truth. Will Fury-Whyte take place on DAZN? On ESPN? On Fox? On Showtime? On Triller? We'll find out soon!
The people here that are emotionally involved with how much Whyte should make will be all over you again.
