Yep. Kovalev was very competitive. His long jab and staying outside gave Canelo fits. Canelo was not expecting for Kovalev to fight smart. He likely thought he would get an aggressive Kovalev and KO him coming in, in the early rounds. Canelo had to adjust and get past that long jab. That is easier said than done vs an opponent with longer reach, taller, and has pop.

I will tell you who looked like a shot fighter was Benavidez when he fought Gavril.

It’s amusing to me, anyone who says Canelo is scared of Benavidez. Benavidez’s style was made to order for Canelo. He will beat him down, break him down for 12 rounds or stop him late. Two different levels. It is not worth it right now for Canelo. It won’t mean anything.

The issue with an elite fighter taking on a green fighter, and that elite fighter being the first good fighter the green guy has faced, is that if the elite fighters win, critics will just say the green fighter is….well…..green. Rightly so. Problem is, it takes for the fight to happen and come to a conclusion for critics to then say what was true all along. Boxing fans, the majority of them, don’t stick to their guns. It’s very unfortunate to see.

Yes the Kovalev fight was close despite Kovalev doing nothing but pushing out a weak ass jab the whole fight with nothing behind it, which said more about Canelo's lack of ability than Kovalev being impressive. It showed how easily it is control canelo if you can jab and not run. Everyone ignores that just because Canelo finally knocked out a fighter that could no longer take a punch. Most of Canelo's fights vs decent opponents are close, yet the fan boys pretend he just runs over everyone. He really is not THAT good.

You mean his career over 160lbs? Even at 168, he beat a bunch of paper champs, not a single established champion, in a division thats the weakest its been in his history, all while dodging the only elite fighter in that division.

callum smith coming off a robbery against ryder, plant with a laughable resume for a "number 1" guy, saunders did nothing at 168.

It is what it is, speaking of divisions over super middleweight, Canelo is unimportant fighter.

If he wants to change that, he must fight legit guys at 175 or a legit cruiserweight champ.
Chavez was at 164 CW, Canelo had 2 175 fights not what I would call a career.

What is sickening and de****able is that these same people calling the Kovalev fight a legacy defining wins are the same people who say Terence's win over Brook means nothing.

                They're the exact same thing.

Notice I'm not pretending that Terence beat an elite prime Kell Brook. I'm just stating the FACTS that it's no worse of a win that Canelo's "career best" win over Kovalev.

But these DCAFs still act like canelo has this legendary resume, even after Dmitry Bivol completely exposed that Canelo's win over Kovalev was fraudulent. Bivol exposed how Canelo would really fare against a PRIME, prepared top 2 light heavyweight. Back in 2021 these Canelo DCAFs were still saying Kovalev was the best in the division. What a joke.

If that's how bad Canelo looked against Bivol, he'll get curb stomped by Beterbiev.

Can't.run down Canelo for trying but it's clear he doesn't belong at 175 vs the top fighters. Move down to a weight comfortable for him and chalk this loss down to a learning experience.

that division is straight up garbage as the bivol fight showed. he wasnt much bigger than some of them 168 fighters either so they should be hanging their heads in shame, they were so intimidated before they even got in the damn ring and didnt even have any belief in themselves that they could win. literally as soon as it got a bit tough in their most of them threw in the towel. the worst thing is some of them seemed pleased with their performances afterwards!! plant saying he proved himself in that fight, good grief

I think he’s proven why we have weight classes. Most dummies in here don’t understand.
It’s a safe bet to say Canelo Shouldn’t fight above 168.
That said, theirs no belts to win in that division. I think he should either retire OR fight Charla, Benavides and Andrade.
